Ours is not near Lehigh, it's a bit north in Ridge Manor Estates off I-75. We didn't buy these have been in the family since 1970. Somehow we ended up with it. For a while I was getting phone calls and letters to sell the land but seemed they all wanted upfront fees. It's been quiet lately tho.

JoAnn, my MIL owned a little condo bungalow in Lehigh Acres about 10 years ago. We drove down to visit and stayed at Lehigh Resort (which we loved). I remember driving around the area that has all those canals, with no houses, and thinking, "How odd is this?"

As far as OFs, there are plenty here, bajillions, but the quality is much higher.

You know how delicate I am about Lehigh . . . which was on the news last night for yet another drug deal gone bad . . . but, yes, it is one of those Lehigh/Cape Coral type of places, started back in the 70's, but without all the problems.

        Lots and lots of golf.

Our experience exactly. We almost bought one 15 years ago. That was before the boom brought the crime problems.

Jim, let us know the area after you buy.

Did you check out the foreclosure websites? I saw some pretty good buys in the Englewood/Port Charlotte area.

              Ooooh, you're close!!!!

Today we are working our way to the airport, to trade folks sharing our vacation with us, and we're stopping at every Goodwill along the way. I just hope I can pick up wi-fi while everyone else goes in.

Not why I came to FL.

Now we're at Turvis Tumbler. I picked on wi-fi in the parking lot.

At the last stop I told my golfing/TUG buddy that even if a place was free, the hassle of having a place in FL would make it problematic.

The best deal is still to be able to timeshare, for however long that will last.

We made it 10 miles further, and the girls are now in Ross Dress For Less. I'm on Panera's wi-fi.

We may not make it to the airport.

Did you stop at the fairly new Goodwill in South Ft. Myers on Daniels and Plantation (I think)...just east of Metro? Looks big to me.
                  Good luck house hunting.

The one I did not get was an older house, but updated with tile, cabinets, etc., with four country clubs/golf course, all in very nice condition, for $65,500.

Everywhere we have been, from lesser developments to nicer ones south of Ft. Myers, there have been a lot of foreclosures or short sales.

We are joking that the girls need to put together Goodwill Tours. All girl trips from the midwest/north, etc. to Florida, just to stop at Goodwills, Salvation Army, Ross Dress For Less, etc.

Tell the girls not to forget Bell's Outlets, especially on Mondays for over-50's discounts!
