So, is it insane to go to Disney in July? I have a 2 bedroom Saratoga Springs unit on hold and am trying to decide whether to keep it. I can't fathom letting it go - I've been wanting to visit for a long time and a 2 br summer unit seems unbelievable to me...

It totally depends on your tolerance level.
We were there last July. Myself, my Dad (70 yrs), daughter (15) and niece (24).
It was hot, humid, and thunderstorms every afternoon. Did that stop us from having a great time? Absolutely NOT.
The girls were out all day, every day at the parks from morning to night. My Dad and I took it easy. We would come back to the resort to rest in the afternoons, and we also took a couple days break to just hang out, and visit NASA's complex in Cape Canaveral.
Would I do it again in the summer? Sure.

I did it for 2 weeks end of August in 1998.
Only difference was, most people were back in school, except for 3 northeastern states and the UK -- hence, no crowds.
The heat and humidity were killers for me, we had a week straight of 100 degrees and with the humidity the THI felt like it was 110.
I SWORE I would rather have my fingernails pulled out one by one and/or other horrible stuff rather than ever ever ever do that again and I haven't.
I broke down and pulled the kids out of school for a few days in November a few yrs later , never regretted that once I decided if we were ever going to go again, it had to be that way.
Everyone is different but even with excessive drinking and looking for airconditioning (shops and bathrooms) and wetting myself down with ice and showers (they have sprinklers set up in EPCOT and give away water when it;'s that hot) the veins or capillaries in my legs became visibly swollen and I was still physically sick 3 days before the end and decided to remain indoors. DH and kids were fine.
That's my story. Good luck with your decision.

Kinda depends on type of person you are. If you always make the best of things whenever you go you will probably be able to tollerate it and just be a bit unhappy but if not you will probably be real unhappy. lol
Just kidding, sort of!! But if you go then, expect hot, and humid weather with some thunderstorms thrown in for good measure. Disney is very crowded because you have not just vacationers but all the locals off from school, etc.
I wouldn't go then, but, hey there are people who live there all year round!!!ken H.,Ballston Lake, NY

Personally I wouldn't go anytime of the year.
However although it is very hot and very crowded it will not effect any children with you at all. I spent many summers in Miami with my grandmother and had no complaints.
Because you will be on Disney property you will have early hour and late hour access that the general public will not have. The worst part of the day you can be back in your unit or at the pool.
Prepare for VERY bad hair days.Lawren

Hmmmmm... I forgot about the hour before. We could definitely go early in the morning, spend a few hours in the park, then just hang out at the pool complex during the day. I used to visit my grandmother every summer in Tampa, Florida, and always had a great time. But it was a little cooler, and I was always at the beach all day. I just can't see giving up the opportunity to go to Disney, but maybe I'll have to... ARGH!!

4th of July
We did Disney with a 7 and 5 year old and pregnant mother about 5 years ago. We went early, carried frozen water bottles, and left about 12:30 or 1:00. Went back to TS had lunch, rested and sometimes went back after an early dinner. We survived and had a great time. There were 5 adults and the 2 kids. This year we were in Orlando in August, but did Sea World and used the same format. Early or late. No problems.

We're going in July too. Yes it HOT!!! And there are those pop-up thundershowers every afternoon. But there are ways to work around it. We take advantage of the early admission/later stay options for those staying on Disney property. Also make use of the fast pass for the popular rides. We found the best combo was to head out to the most popular ride in the park with the early admission, then get a fast pass after we get off that ride. There's no sense in getting a fast pass right away since there's no wait. (although keep in mind that during the summer time, even the fast pass line can be long!) We try to get back to the resort for lunch to stay out of the heat and save on the cost of food. It's also a good time to take a quick nap and get refreshed. When we go back for the afternoon, I take along several of those disposable rain coats (you can often get them at the dollar store - 2 in a pack for a buck). If it starts raining, we can still walk around with our raincoats while others are crowding indoors or under roofs. I also take frozen bottles of water to keep a little cooler and have something to drink. It's amazing how thirsty you get with the heat. We head back to the resort for a quick dinner or snack around 5:00 or 6:00. We may spend an hour or so at the pool and then head to the park with the extra late hour around 7:30. If you are going to stay late, don't forget to get one of the special wristbands. Locations are announced. Anyone can stay in the park after the normal closing time. But only those with the wristbands can get on the rides. You'll need to show your resort ID to get the wristband.
Most importantly, don't stress about not being able do everything. Take time to enjoy yourself and relax. That will help you cope with the heat and the crowds.
