  • The Smell At Orange Lake

I don't know what is worse, the smell at OL's East Village when the wind is from the east or the smell of the advice being given in this thread OY:

Smell at Orange Lakes - Timeshare Users Group Online Community Forums

I don't often get POed about stuff OY, but when I see people getting lied to when they are about to make a many-thousand-dollar decision, knowing I'm helpless to tell them the truth, I do.

If someone has an ounce of compassion, could they please tell the poor guy/gal just to google map the East Village and then drag over to the east where just over the Disney/OL property line you can see the Reedy Creek Wastewater Treatment plant located in the Animal Kingdom.

Tell em it's not the lake, it's not reclaimed irrigation water, it's not any of the things people are lying about. It is, in fact, well you know, and it can be overwhelming, so much so that you can't go outside sometimes when the wind is from the east.

Tell em to come here or get ahold of me.

Thanks, and I appreciate your concern.

Unfortunately, the OP went ahead and bought the EV unit he was inquiring about. He's hoping for the best. Maybe like for some, the wind will never be from the east when he and his are there.

Back to my gripe . . . the concept that the preponderance of posts will determine the outcome, or the truth, of an issue . . . that is BS in some instances. In cases where a fact is a fact, such as this one, it is inexcusable (IMHO) that mistruths be allowed to mislead.

In that thread, supposedly respectable, knowledgeable, owner-types clearly misled, whether it be intentional or not, by posting totally bogus information.

If anyone from OY happens to stumble onto this thread, let me restate what I stated there a couple years, during our last visit, likely our last visit, at OL, that the smell was so bad that everyone in the EV was covering their face with their hands or a towel when they had to go outside. Yes, it was only the EV that we smelled it. Although RI would be in the smell zone, too, it would have been ridiculous for me to run over there to confirm that, given the situation.

At exactly the peak of smelliness one evening, a gentleman in one of those white OL vans with engineering on the side of it was in our parking lot, so I asked him. He confirmed that it was Disney's water treatment plant, saying it is a problem OL has had to contend with from the git-go.

All the google-mapping and confirmation of this problem was done OY two years ago, but inaccurate intervention there, mostly by OL owners, has subsequently created confusion.

The fact is that all of the EV and RI were built downwind, knowing they were downwind, and none of the owners at OL seem to have been told that when they were being pitched . . . and why would they be?

I notice the disinformation is all coming from OL owners, those who would have a bias, even with other OL owners confirming the problem.

And, the toughest nut acqiesced, I believe for the first time.

Owners have a defensive tendency for their resorts, but none seems to be more so than OLCC or whatever they are calling it now. And it seems to have been so for at least the last decade that I know of.

Some things just will never go away.

I am engaged in a stupid debate on yet-another forum whether there actually is or is not a Stink.

Best as I can figure, this whole OL BS has been going on for almost 8 years, since soon after we got back from staying there in Jan '04. Maybe it was earlier than that, but '04 sticks in my mind.

Well, add that to the decomposing wastes of Disneyphiles.

My daughter still refers to OL as "that stinky place." It was horrible...and I mean horrible. The entire week we couldn't go outside, couldn't use the deck...yuck.

When you google this topic you will find all kinds of disgusting things about Disney.

                        But, then, that's just logic.

(We were at a Chiefs game when all the toilets failed. Picture 80,000 beer-drinking . . . never mind.)

That was a major reason for the remodel.
