Then, in the early '90s Wastegate's Mr. Sleaze and RCI's Ms. D engaged in an ugly falling-out sue-a-thon. Mr. Sleaze took his ball over to play with II.
Over the years, Wastegate resorts still affiliated with RCI through prior agreements got stripped of their RCI ratings. Over the years, Mr. Sleaze and his Sales Weasels took every opportunity to badmouth RCI, to the tune of 50,000 tours a year in Mousetown, even almost 20 years after the falling-out. RCI guests at Wastegate got stuck in the oldest, crappiest units, and were targeted from the minute they checked in.
Enter DVC, and the freeing up of Orlando Getaways for Orlando II resort owners in 2001, and Mr. Sleaze found a way to even the score, by selling Wastegate to get DVC II Getaways. There's no telling how many bajillions Mr. Sleaze has made on the buy an EOY in order to get unlimited DVC Getaways pitch.
It's no surprise that DVC has gone to RCI, regardless of what it cost RCI.
