    Wow! No rental car advice.

    That's unusual for here.

I tried the 50% off Budget link on RCI.com, and it was way high.

      That is usual for there.

At least Hotwire has a sense of humor. I just got this from them:

Heads up: car rental rates in Saint Petersburg have dropped
Great news! Recently, you found a 13-day rental car in Saint Petersburg from Jan. 2 to Jan. 15 for $83.95 per day. We just spotted a lower price. Take a look at what we found for you:
        Best of the best

        $81.95

        Let's see, that's about $1100 and I'm trying for $450.

My sis needs a car in SCal at the end of the month and priceline is NOT co-operating...maybe as her dates get closer? I hope. 'cause dear old dad told her what a great deal I got in April.

Getting stuff for family is even more difficult than getting stuff for me!

            Car rentals from PIE

I assume you have made your arrangements by now, but I have success with Car Rentals from CarRentals.com I can also make a reservation that can be canceled if I find a lower rate, later.

            Good luck.

Actually I've been stubbornly trying Priceline for $25/day, to see if it will just give up and let me have it.

              I'll try y'alls.

I just tried everything I could find for National and it's coming out over $1000 for 13 days. Other sites are the same. There is the normal rental fee which is about right at around $500, and then an additonal fee of about the same.

                Is this for real?

I've been trying Priceline at $25/day, or $484, and it is suggesting $32/day will get it.

Anyone wanna give it a shot?

Midsize SUV or minivan at PIE, 10 PM 1/2/10 til 3 PM 1/15/10

                Thanks

Flyertalk also appears to be clueless. There is an absence of current codes and others are getting the same ridiculously high rates.

I am reluctant to use Priceline until I have exhausted other options.

I tried through Priceline to get a rental at Tampa airport this past August. Never did get anything.

I sense I can get something, just not ready to go as high as I need to to get it. Yet.

$27/day has not gotten it, and it is suggesting $33. That is better than the $60-100/day elsewhere. For that it would need to have 2 bedrooms and be on the beach.

I got a cheap rental in SCal in April but never got them to budge via Priceline for my sister's visit in summer. Currently trying to get a good deal for end of September. Bidding for travel shows someone won at $18/day for my dates just a little while ago so I guess it's doable.

Fingers crossed for me and fingers crossed for you.

I've got a new twist to the dwindling (actually dwindled--past tense) RCI availability in SW FL in January.

I just checked my Hilton benefits for the first time and I can get January dates in places like FMB, Naples, Estero, Venice, Sarasota, etc., at hotels like Doubletree Suites, Hampton Inn and Suites, Hilton Suites, Embassy Suites, Homewood Suites, etc., for $29 and $39 per night.

I can get up to two rooms.

For every force they say there is an anti-force, so is this like the anti-timeshare force?

wow, what good rates. I was thinking about you, tying to persuade Ron to take a trip to Branson, Stonebridge is available, but he says too far to go.
