  • Good info about Florida's springs

Florida Springs Travel Destinations Guide - OrlandoSentinel.com

Like the link for beaches, this is a good launch page with info and pictures of many of Florida's most popular springs..

quite a few years back my son and I visited my best buddy who was at that time teaching at UFL. We went to Ginnie Springs and had an awesome time. Very beautiful. There IS water inland!!!

The idea of underwater cave diving scares me to death but is apparently very popular.

Never actually had the guts to go into a cave system, but in college- used to grab scuba gear and drop to the mouth of the cavern at night- and then break open light sticks to watch the light show... Not really sure why it seemed like fun, or even if it was harmful to the environment- but dates always loved it!

Never mind- I just remembered why it was so much fun!

Seriously though, the springs in Florida are truly breathtaking! Ichetucknee, Ginnie, and Rock Springs are one's I've really enjoyed!

Another great place was Hermososa (sp?) Springs? A nicely done wildlife refuge/manatee rescue. I think they filmed the 60's era Gentle Ben series there.

It's Homosassa Springs, and it is a fun place to visit!

We love Homossassa Springs, and almost everyone who comes to visit gets a day trip with us to that destination. We never get tired of seeing all the animals and birds native to Florida, the awesome manatees, and one hippo who was made an honorary citizen of Florida so he could live in the park! There is an underwater observatory to watch the countless fish, and often there are flying fish in the springs which are fun to watch too. If you go, don't forget your AAA card for a good discount.
We also often go to Silver Springs, where there are three different glass-bottom boat rides. You get some wonderful views of the underwater springs. Many movies were filmed there, for example the Creature from the Black Lagoon and a scene or two for one of the James Bond movies. The Crocodile Hunter came here for an episode of his show, and back in the 60's or 70's the TV show Sea Hunt was filmed there.
