Wow! I just checked out the link. Tickets for the causeway viewing are $56.00/adults and $46/children (2 - 11). In April 2001 we had the priviledge of watching a launch from the causeway for free. My best friend's dd works at Kennedy and she had been lucky enough to draw passes for that launch, which she gave to us.

I feel very lucky to have seen two. And I'm from the west coast.

I was in Orlando one year when they had a Launch while I was there. Just my luck they moved the launch date and I could not see it. I did enjoy the tour of the Kennedy space center.

The first launch we saw, on the causeway, went off as scheduled. We were staying in Orlando for the week, and did the tour of KSC one day, then came back another day for the launch, which was in the afternoon. We got there about 3 hours ahead of time. It was probably the best 3 hour wait I've ever had. We watched the dolphins and alligators play. They also had loud speakers set up so we could hear what was going on with the launch.

The second launch we saw was only because it had been delayed one day. We were coming to Cocoa Beach for the wedding of my best friend's dd (the one who works at KSC). The launch was supposed to be on Thursday, and we found out when we arrived that night it had been delayed to Friday morning. So we all met at the bride and groom's condo, walked out to the beach and watched the early morning launch. What a site!

Well the causeway was definitely closer. I think we were 6 miles away (the closest that anyone can get unless they work for KSC, or are some kind of VIP).

But the view from the beach was spectacular. It was from the "other side" of KSC. Also, one was during the day (causeway) where we could see everything. The other (on the beach) was early morning when it was still dark. So we didn't see much until the shuttle kind of broke through and lit up the sky.

We tried to see one this Summer. Drove from Tampa area. They cancelled it at almost launch time. Getting back across the state was terrible. Much traffic. Will not try again unless staying in area.

I would make every effort to see a launch if I am in the Orlando/ Cocoa Beach area. Alas, I will be home, in California...

For your viewing pleasure and compliments of my insider at KSC.

STS-128 Launch - Cool night shot!

STS-114 going vertical in the VAB for stacking.

A neat shot of some cool weather on roll-out. (I believe this was a launch that was scrubbed and launched later)
