Telescamming - Tell me about it

Just tonight I made a request in the "General Timesharing" forum for ideas to deal with - stop! - the incessant telemarketing calls we've been getting since we bought our second week a few months ago. I don't think we'd been home a week before getting a call to see if we wanted to sell!

I haven't been writing down the names of the companies who've called - but I think at least one of the two mentioned in the article have called us.

      Enough!

I'd love to hear how other owners are dealing with controlling these unwanted calls. Is there any way to tag our units "not for sale"?

Step 1 is to get your number on the national "do not call" registry run by the FTC. You can do so in just a few seconds; access the govt. site via a Google search on "do not call" and enter your info. Takes 30 seconds or less, start to finish. While this might only stop some "first time" callers, immediately pointing out to the unwelcome caller that your number is registered with the FTC "do not call" list will certainly discourage follow-up calls from the same entity, since that response "tags" you as an unlikely "mark" (...at best), even if they don't much care about violating the FTC provisions.

I'm not sure there is too much more you can do to actually prevent these kinds of calls, since the "upfront fee" parasites seeking your hard earned dollars are willing to shamelessly keep dialing timeshare owner phone numbers in their tireless attempt to appeal directly to people's greed. All it takes is an occasional "fish" to be "hooked" by those empty promises of inflated selling prices, eager conventioneers, corporations allegedly looking for vacations for their employees, etc., etc. (all of it just fabricated nonsense) to produce some easy money for doing nothing more than just dialing the phone...

Maybe the Florida AG is the one who would take up a state Consumer Protection case against RCI rentals if the class action falls by the wayside through the sellout / settlement

Guess I need to find all those complaints I filed years ago.

They didn't seem too eager to take up the cause then.
