  • Anyone "Do" the Trikes on Oahu?

We are going to Oahu January 23-30. Staying at Hawaiian Hilton - Kalia. Our first time in Oahu except for the airport on our way to Kauaii.

We read in "Oahu Revealed" about the "trikes" and it is something we want to do. We just watched "Fly Away Home" as suggested in the book. We had seen it before, but it was good to see again.

I didn't see any reference to this in "Oahu Revealed" but I think the Sunset Cruise on the "Island Dream Catamaran (The Island Dream Catamaran is the most photographed boat in the Hawaiian Islands)" sounds good. We won't rent a car unless it is for a day or so, and it sounds like they will pick you up at your hotel for this cruise. Has anyone done this?

I read somewhere there is a car rental place close to the Hawaiian Hilton. Can anyone tell me more about that?

Also, I remember seeing pictures of the Kalia rooms, but can't seem to locate them again.

Thanks so much for your help.

My oldest son did it on Kauai. He loved it. It was just like flying. I want to learn how to fly one of those ultralights someday.

My number one restaurant recommendation is Maile's Thai Bistro in Hawaii Kai. It's my favorite restaurant in the islands. Great Thai food. If you go there, you may just see me there. Hawaii Kai is where a lot of the old hang gliders used to hang out.

Thanks for your input. We have decided to rent a car at the airport on Saturday when we arrive and return it on Monday (weekend rates seem to be cheaper)

We have made a reservation to do the "trikes" on Sunday morning- one person in each trike and we both go at the same time. This is a picture from the Paradise Air website.

The sunset cruise will probably offer the option of hotel pickup. We took a whale watching cruise in December and they charged about $10 more for pickup/return to the hotel. Plenty of public buses stop at the Hilton you are staying at.

We are in Hawaii 5 Dec 09 - 27 Mar 10. Advance reservations for car rentals were high, but I was able to use "Name your own price" for $10 a day on several islands.

The trikes sound exciting! We might try them. We enjoyed the Hilton Luau.

My husband and I flew on the trikes on Kauai. I LOVED IT. My hubby got airsick but he also gets sea sick. I don't think he would do it again (because of getting sick) but he thought it was pretty cool and very beautiful scenery. I would highly recommend that way of seeing Hawaii. It is different than a helicopter.

We did it. It was awesome. I'm in the back with my hands on the controls.

Muriel, someday I would truly like to meet you. We are so alike it's scarey. I think we were sisters in another life.(altho I wouldn't hang glide) Kelli says you like like a mini Quacker Factory Lady with black hair. shaggy
