Does the Alii Kai Resort have air conditioning?

  • #2
a/c is not listed in their unit ammenities on the Alii Kai website or the RCI website. So I would think, no.

Very few of the resorts on Kauai have A/C or elevators

In Princeville, the new Westin has A/C, none of the others do iirc.
In Kapaa the Pono Kai has a/c and elevators, the Shell Kauai resort has a/c, no elevators. The two Marriott's have both, the Pahio Kauai Beach resort has A/c, no elevators. The Point at Poipu has both, Lawai beach has elevators but no a/c.

If I missed anything, please fell free to chime in.

Minor correction: There are a few units in Pahio Ka'eo Kai along the road that have air-conditioning, I believe...

Why so few units with AC?

I'm surprised there are so few timeshares with AC. Why is that? Isn't AC needed?

We stayed there in June of 2007..........I was a little apprehensive about staying there because of not having the a/c but we were fine....they have ceiling fans in all the rooms and the cross breeze from the ocean was nice.

In many areas with the trade winds blowing AC is not absolutely essential. Beyond that, it's a question of the cost of electricity.

Personally - and speaking as a person who owns in Hawai'i and visits Hawai'i for at least two weeks most years - I am totally comfortable with the notion of metering each unit and charging all occupants an energy usage charge based on the meter readings between check-in and check-out. Let occupants pay for the energy they use in their unit. Also, during the week occupants should get updates (notices under the door, for example) indicating what energy charges they have accrued to date.

Given Hawai'i electricity prices, I bet there would be a lot of people who decided that they could get by without A/C, that they really don't need to dry those towels in the dryer after they come from the pool or the beach, that they can wear those clothes another day without putting them in the dryer, etc. Or, if those activities are that important to them, they can pay for the energy they use.
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

                “You shouldn't wear that body.”
