  • Best Luau

We are going back to Hawaii next August and staying at Alii Kai Resort in Princeville, Kauai and Kona Hawaii Resort in Kailua-Kona, Big Island - Hawaii.

My daughter is wanting to take our grandsons - ages 8 & 10 to a Luau.

What are your recommendations for the best Luau for kids that age?

Wow! I haven't seen a best luau thread in soooooooo long!!!

Back in the day it was Smiths (?) in Kapaa.

    Where did that come from?

(I was designated driver, which we needed one of.)

We thought the one on the Big Isl at Kamehameha (sp for sure...) Resort in "DT" Kona was the best of the last few (in the past couple of years).

        Island Breeze Luau

I think the one at the Kona hotel mentioned in the previous post(I don't spell Komeamea correctly) is called the Island Breeze. There are usually discount coupons in the entertainment books for this one, which we have done twice and enjoyed despite the $75/each adult normal charge. We liked it as part of the show is the landing of the king onto the resorts beach and he makes a grand entry to the luau prior to the show beginning. You might check for possible children's tickets. The Smiths Grotto Luau is suppose to be real good and cannot attest to it. I've heard the mosquitos can be a problem there. We had done the Princeville Hotel Luau a few years ago before it was closed for new owner refurbishing.

          You are skipping Maui?

From my experiences, Maui is the king of the luaus. Plus Maui is beautiful. Are you really skipping Maui?

Are the luaus really worth it? Is it a tacky tourist thing or a real cultural experience?

Tacky tourist thing or cultural experience everyone needs to go to at least one luau.
