  • Our Maui Vacation Jan 7-Jan 20

I haven't had time to write about our vacation to Maui until now.

First I would like to say that our week at the Kaanapali Beach Club (KBC) was wonderful. Things went much better than 2 years ago. Diamond seems to be doing a good job of making the KBC one of the better Ocean Front Resorts on Maui.

I still think that the KBC Ocean Front Units have the best views of all of the Maui Resorts.

The new addition of Duke's Restaurant within walking distance is a real plus.

We had drinks and dinner with some TUG members at Kimo's. It was nice meeting with them.

Weather over all was great and we had better than an average Whale Watch.

While eating a late lunch at the Hula Grill we hear Ernest Puaa AKA the "Da Barefoot Warrior". If you like "IZ" you should like Ernest. I bought his 2 CD's and I think both CD's are great.

If you are in Maui and you like good music go the Hula Grill and check him out.

You walked to Duke's? How did you get there, we couldn't make it by walking the beach and if you go up to the highway it's gotta be more than a couple of miles. Must be all that tennis that keeps you in shape!

I am glad that you had a great vacation and that everything worked out better than on your last trip when you were pretty unhappy with the condo allocation.

Good to hear that the weather was nice and that there are more whales yet this year. A whale watch trip is highly recommended on Maui as well as where we are at the moment (Banderas Bay near Puerto Vallarta).

I agree with you that listening to Da Barefoot Warrior at the Hula Grill is very enjoyable while looking at the ocean and sipping a tropical drink. He has a nice voice and I love his songs. We also have his CDs and listen to them at home and I visualize myself on Maui again.

There are 2 Ways to Duke's from KBC.

There are 2 ways to get to Duke's.

The short way you must be willing to walk on the Aston Mahana property. They do say it is private.

As you leave KBC make a right turn on what I think is called Kaanapali Shores Place. Walk to the beach and go around the fence at the beach. You can then get on the new walk way to Duke's. Since the Mahana people use KBC Resort's Amenities I have no problem walking on their property. There is also a door in the fence with a combination lock about half way to the beach from KBC. The KBC said they do not have the combination but the other Resorts next to KBC seems to know the combination. Maybe it is 1/4 mile walk.

The longer way is making a left turn on Kaanapali Shores Place walking toward the Market. (It was called the Star Market) Make a right on Lower Honoapiilani Road. Do not cross the street to go to the market. Make a right turn on the path that states it is the path toward the new beach walkway. It is about a block from Kaanapali Shores Place. Maybe it is 1/2 mile to Dukes from KBC.

The High today was 8 with a low of -5 tonight

I am listening to the music of the Da Barefoot Warrior but with a low tonight of -5 it is hard to to see myself on Maui right now.

            But this picture helps.

When we were at KBC last May, my DW was able to walk from there to Dukes for breakfast almost every AM. You do have to walk across the lawn next door but nobody seems to mind. She was in a boot prior to foot surgery and didn't have any problem.
