  • I have 2 Hawaii weeks booked and will be giving them away

I have 2 weeks booked for Hawaii. The 1st week is at the Maui Schooner checking in July 15th. The 2nd week is at Hanalei Bay Resort on Kauai checking in July 23rd . All I ask in return is the exchange fee and the transfer fee. I booked these through Trading Places. I would like to give the regulars on this board first chance.

I live in Wisconsin and I am a state employee. I am one of the unfortunate ones that will most likely be getting a preliminary notice of layoff within the month. I just hope something can get worked out but it doesn't look good.

This is not the time to be spending money.

Oh Mike! I'm so very sorry to hear that. Fingers crossed for you.

So sorry to hear your demise. I hope WI state legislature can put politics aside and work together.

Also, Does TPI prohibit renting the exchange weeks? If not, you might want to consider putting these weeks on the craigslist for rent.

          Bummer. Hang in there.

I don't know what's worse, to be employed and worried about losing your job, or to be unemployed, and not have that worry.

It is fairly common for Hawaii exchanges to get cancelled because it is somewhat difficult to get to, and expensive.

I'm Sorry For Your Bad News

I know that you were looking forward to going to Hawaii.

Perhaps, our State Leaders can still get it done one way or the other by Tuesday and nobody with have to be lose their job.

                  Mike,

I am so sorry to hear your news. I am a state worker also, in California. We had pay cuts and furlough Fridays for almost two years. Now a 5% pay cut, and talks of greatly reducing our pensions. No end in sight to all this bad news but so far no layoffs. It may just be a matter of time. I hope that everything works out for you. We had preliminary layoff notices a couple of years back, but no actual layoffs. Maybe it will be that way for you too. I sure hope so.

I hope you can find someone to take your weeks and hopefully reimburse you some of your costs too.

Very sorry to hear of your circumstances Mike. I am also state worker retired from NY State. Glad I am retired at this point.
Very sad that you will miss Hawaii vacation, I am sure you were very much looking forward to it. Hang in there, hopefully things will work out.

Best of luck to you Mike. This economy and all the budget issues have taken a toll on everyone. I still have a job, but we just took an $18,000 year pay cut. Those in power just don't seem to get it...it is never them that are affected.

I really feel bad for you that you will have to give up your trip to Hawaii as you must have been looking forward to it.

I also hope that you will be spared from being layed off. Let us know and good luck.

yes, i was wondering if the legislature and executive are having their pensions affected/
I was surprised to hear that teachers and state workers in Wisconsin don't contribute to their pensions, but that isn't even the issue that is causing the uproar.
In Illinois, we paid 10 and a half percent out of our paycheck to retirement. We are constantly getting emails warning that there is a movement to take away our pensions. We don't get social security. If it happens, think of all the money I will save on income taxes. i won't have much income.

Does TPI allow you to cancel and rebank? That way you can save the weeks for a better time. I realize you may lose the exchange fees, but that is better than losing the weeks. I realize this is a very stressful time for you and your family (as well as thousands of others), but hopefully it will get resolved, you will still have your job, and when that happens, you will need that vacation.
