The earthquake in Japan has triggered a tsunami warning here in Hawaii. Initial predictions is that waves will hit Kaui starting at 3 AM. Evacuations are happening throughout the island. This is our first major exposure to a Tsunami so we'll see how it goes.

My 20 year old niece, who moved to Hilo from Maine just last week, reports that she has been evacuated. -
The updated report is that midway atol is reporting a 5 ft tsunami wave at their location and is likely to be higher when it hits Hawaii. Previous reports were anticipating a 6ft wave in Hawaii but predicting waves is a very inexact science.
I'm currently at WKORV and they have evacuated the 1st floor rooms only. They are opening up vacant rooms and making them available on a temporary basis. I got an email from another acquaintance who is staying at the Kaanapali Beach Club and got booted up to the 7th floor, sharing 8 to a roomComment

The report is the first wave is hitting now. Most places have seen 1-3 ft while Kahalui saw waves of 6+ ft. The waves continue to occur but hard to say if it will get worseComment

I just saw a report from Samoa. The islands were devastated with at least 100 people reported killed or washed out to sea. The governor there said that the second and third waves were the largest and most damaging..my travel website: Vacation-Times.org.

Not much happened here. It certainly was more scary after seeing the Japan video clips. Just getting alternative high and low tides. Some, but not much, flooding. Boat damage.
Best part of it all for my kids is that they get a Tsunami day off.Comment

On Maui, Kahana area reported some flooding as well as parts of South Kihei Road. We were fine in Kaanapali area and Lahaina town had a bit of flooding in various parts. Got no pics to really show other than just a higher waterline.
Big Island is still under Tsunami warning and Kona area definitely had flooding with water all the way up to Alii Drive to the resorts.
