Need help in planning trip to Kauai

So I am going to put in a search for Kauai for August/September 2012. We are going to spend 2 weeks on Kauai, and are looking to stay in 2 totally different areas of the island. Which areas should we look into, and which would you recommend first and then second? Thanks. BTW, just DH and myself. No children.

Kauai

Great time to be on Kauai, but since there isn't a bad time, well.

1st, which trading company are you going to use?

Summer the Northshore is where the best use of the ocean happens. Tunnels, Ke'e beach, Hanalei Bay are all superb. Do you need A/C? Few of the resorts on Kauai have it as the temperature is so moderate.

The east side and south side ( Kapaa and Poipu) are closer to the better restaurants and the food/gas sources ( Safeway- Costco) and most of the shopping, not to mention Puka Dogs.
The ocean will be rougher here as the waves come from the south during the summer, so if ocean use is high on your plans, you may want to reconsider stay north for both weeks.

We prefer the Kapaa area, close to everything, but the again our favorite resort is in Kapaa.

We have found that by staying in the center we can travel north one day and south the next as the wind and spirit moves us.

Thanks. Ocean swimming is not important at all. A/C we can also do without.

Greg's advice is excellent. (Although I am not a Puka Dog fan.) I do think that spending 1 week on each coast is the most efficient, otherwise there is quite a lot of driving. We love Kauai and all that it offers.
We have stayed at many of the resorts and enjoyed them all. If I remember rightly from reviews, you need to avoid Banyan Harbor.

If you're going to stay in two different areas of the Island, then it really comes down to one week on the north shore and one on the south shore. That's the tack we take when we spend multiple weeks on Kaua'i.

The Pono Kai in Kapaa is ocean front

We have some extra requirements as my wife Joyce is wheel chair bound, such as no stairs, flat level grounds, close parking, handicapped toilets to name a few, a/c in the master bedroom.

The other resorts on Kauai are very nice, some are nicer than our choice, but none offer the above list of requirements.

I will be using RCI.

OK, so that allows you to book any of the RCI resorts, so in Princeville, The Shearwater, Bali Hai, Ke eo Kai or either of the Makai clubs, then the Aliikai2 or the Cliffs club or resort.

In Kapaa the Pono Kai or the Kapaa Shore.

In Wailea, The Wyndham Kauai Beach resort.

In Poipu area the Lawai Beach, the Poipu @ the Point,

Any of these will work. Now just refine your needs then place your requests.
