We are looking to extend our Point at Poipu week to stay on the other side of the island and have a choice of Kapaa Shore or Pono Kai. Any thoughts on which is better? We have seen the area but not the resorts. We will have a car and are not restricted on activities. Just want a full kitchen. Our visit will be in April next year. Thanks, Tom

Kapaa Shore or Pono Kai

We stayed at Pono Kai and liked it. The location of Kapaa Shores is closer to town which makes it easier to walk to restaurants if you want to instead of driving.
At Kapaa shores all of the 2 bdr units are on the 3rd floor and there are no elevators. There is no A/C in any of the units there but April should not be too bad. We were at the Pono Kai in November and we were happy to have the air conditioner at times, though.
The Pono Kai has several different sections. You want to stay in the Pono Kai section vs. the Pacific Shores at Pono Kai or any other xxx at Pono Kai if you care about the view. The 1 bdr unit in the section called only 'Pono Kai' have a nice view of the water. The 2bdr units in some buildings in that section, building F I think, have a somewhat obstructed view.
