The Polynesian Cultural Center is highly recommended and especially the evening show. We still believe that this is the very best show we have seen of all the shows on the Hawaiin Islands.
We have never rented a car yet on Oahu but we always stay on Waikiki Beach only. We have taken the bus all around the Island more than once and even stopped at the Cultural Center on our own one time. We have always seen the evening show but I don't remember if there was a bus back at night to Honolulu but there must have been one or we would have been stranded.
We mostly took the tour from the hotel when we had friends or family with us. We also visited the Mormon temple next door as that must have been part of the tour.
