I am considering taking this for our first week on Maui (8/18 checkin), instead of spending both weeks at the Embassy Ka'anapali. It is a two bedroom with full kitchen. Any input to help with the decision will be welcome. If I decide not to take it, it will be released tomorrow, PM me if you want to try to coordinate release (though at the moment I'm leaning toward keeping it...)

Continuing....LOL. Have you been to Maui previously? If you take the Banyon which is in Kihei-you will have a much shorter drive to Hana or Haleakala Crater and Ma'alaea harbor if you plan on taking a snorkel cruise to Molokini.Of course there is the Wailea area too and the last lava flow-really cool-if you ask me
When you get to the Embassy-you can just chill or take in Ka'anapali and all that offers. I happen to like the Kihei area. Splitting your time and resorts makes good sense to me. Hope this helps.

StressCadet,
You sound just like me (right down to the user ID). Ok I will hang on a while longer, but I think I will keep it. And I haven't really "planned" anything yet (other than power hang gliding in Hana), so can work our trip accordingly...
Thanks!

I kept it!!
Again, SC, thank you for saying a lot of what I was hoping to hear. I have a feeling the West Maui area is going to be too congested for me to spend two weeks (it's so congested where I live, I hate to deal with it on vacation), and you're right that the kids will be fine in a quieter place as long as it's not a 'let down' on the heels of a big 'resort' type place.
Yippeee!!

We just left Maui nine days ago.
West Maui was not congested and was an easy drive to any place on the island. It took five minutes from Kahana to Lahaina, the trips to Kahului and Hana Highway were uneventful and free from traffic.
We drove through Kihei a few times during our week. It seemed pretty nice and traffic was similar to Lahaina/Kaanapali/Kapalua on the West side. We have not stayed in Kihei but will sometime. It is a nice area and looks like more shopping is going in! Dragging myself from West Maui will be tough, though. I love the area, the beaches and know my way around, which is unusual for me.
I read good things about that particular resort. You should have a great time. Aloha!
