  • Help on Maui to Hawaii -- non-stop

Earlier posts talks about the long lines and getting to Maui airport 3 hrs earlier to go to Kona. Does this also apply to the non-stop flight available on Aloha? Would they postpone our reservation to a later flight that is heading to Oahu first?

Do the same Security rules apply going from one island to another; i.e., no liquid-type food from the refrigerator in carry-ons or hair shampoos, etc. Thanks in advance

We just flew Kona to Maui on Hawaiian Air. They have ONE direct flight per day, departs Kona at 12:45. We had no trouble; the flight was full but checkin was smooth.

They didn't allow any liquids, not even the 4 ozs I thought the TSA was now allowing. I didn't argue. So basically any rules applicable to domestic flights will be applicable to the inter-island flights. Also be aware of the baggage restrictions, 2 bags pp, max 50 lbs each.

One other thought, as I just reread your post and realize you are going Maui to Kona, rather than vice-versa.

If you can return your rental car to Kapalua rather than OGG, that might save you some hassle (I haven't done it, but am looking into it for next week). Island Air flies from there, it should be much smaller and less crowded. Also closer with less traffic if you are staying at Ka'anapali Beach.
