In another post I mentioned the fun Hawaiian falsetto group we saw at the Hotel Hana Maui; here is a link to a CD with some audio samples... the CD is LeoKane Pryor's, he plays with a number of musicians on the island depending on the day/venue. When we were there, they were booked in Hana on Monday nights, but check with the hotel first:

Avery, when I played a sample of that album, I want to be in Hawaii again! I love the Hawaiian music and dance.

The other day, you quoted some words in one of your posts. Did you hear that song play when you were there? I am sure you heard some of the songs from Israel (IZ). The words are rather sad for the Hawaiian people in the first and last song on that CD. I bought this CD and play it often.

      Emmy,

that is the exact CD we listened to over and over while we were in HI, that's why I quoted it... I am going to buy some more of his stuff from iTunes, but that CD seems to be the best. The Live CD also has some excellent tracks on it, but his earlier sound was not as full and warm... His passing was a terrible loss, I think it will be hard to find another 'hero' for Hawaii with as strong an influence.

eta: If you like IZ, you might also enjoy this CD by The Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau... the title is Na Mele Henoheno Na Makahiki Mua, Helu 'Elua. The group has been through a lot of configurations over the past 25 years or so, but this album features IZ and his brother, Skippy (he also died, sometime before IZ). I couldn't find it on Mele.com, but it's on iTunes and probably on Amazon.

We have been listening to Iz (Israel Kamakawiwo'ole) for years. Nine years
after his death, June 26, 1997, his CD’s are still a number one seller.
