  • Official What's going on in Oahu thread

    Hello everyone,

I will be in Oahu until Oct 19. I don't have a ton of free time, but I wanted to start a thread about this island and offer to help anyone out who wants to know anything about this island in particular.

If you are an Oahu expert, post what you like to do here. I want to go check it out and I'll give you my opinion.

If you will be in Oahu during this time, let me know and I'll try to stop by to say hello.

I am going to head over to Ala moana mall today to sign up for a tour at the Marriott Ko'Olina resort. I tried to check out the Fairfiled Waikiki last night, but I couldn't find it. I'll check it out later this weekend.

      Jen,

Okay, where are you at? I am still on east coast time so I go to bed early (~ 9 pm) and wake up early (~3 am).

We are going to lunch at Bale today for Vietnamese noodles. Probably headed over to Ala Moana to sign up for a Marriott tour.

I love the mornings in Hawaii. The trade winds are so pleasant. And, so are the birds singing.

BocaBum, are you planning to peruse the new Fairfield, Waikiki Beachwalk? I would love your opinion as we are staying there in April-the 28th for a week exchange. I am so excited about being on Oahu. There is someone I want to meet that is going to be living there soon. I actually have a much-younger cousin there as well.

I tried going there last night. I didnt have the address since I thought it would be easy to find. It wasn't. I'm going by there this weekend. I'll take some pictures.

              Fairfield

Hi, Boca...The address for Fairfield at Waikiki Beach Walk is 227 Lewers St. I'll also be interested in what you think of it. We'll be there March 9-16.

We went to Ko-Olina for 5 nights on a promo a year or so ago. It is gorgeous! I loved it, but my DH didn't like being so far away from everything. That's part of its charm, to me. If you get a chance, I hope you'll take the Ali'i tour by Chief Sielu Aveq. He's a Samoan Chief, and it was an interesting tour, riding in the rickety bus, touring the Macadamia farm, a boat trip across a pond. Fun stuff!
He also does the Fia-Fia (sort of Luau) at Ko-Olina.

We also enjoy going to the zoo in Waikiki, as well as the regular touristy places; The Arizona Memorial, The Punch Bowl....and you've already hit the mall, right?

Have fun, and keep us posted. Jean

I forgot to post the website for the Chief's tour. Sorry.

Go to Dole and try out the worlds largest maze. My son broke the all time record and was in 2nd or 3rd place a few years back for a while a few years back. Doubt his name is still up.

The flea market at Aloha Stadium (Weds and Sat, at least last I was there) is worth a trip.

Make sure to read the fine print on their site. The $19, + taxes & fees, is only from/to HNL to/from a neighboring Island. If you want to fly Maui>Kauai, for instance, it will cost you $38 +taxes and fees each way. Still not too bad. http://www.iflygo.com/goSpecials.aspx

We'll be on Maui so I guess I won't get to meet you Boca.

I booked Aloha Airlines. They matched the Iflygo rates. 5 roundtrip tickets between Honolulu and Lihue cost me $247.95 including taxes. I don't think I ever got inter-island tickets that cheap before even in the 80's.
