  • Kauai Coast Resort or Marriott Waohai?-Package

Help me, help me, help me, she said!!!

Here's the Packages I can get on Kauai.....

Kauai Coast Resort at the Beachboy....$559 for 2 br for 4 nights. Dates confirmed and the only thing is a $25 cancellation fee.....

Marriott Waiohai-$799 for 5 nights and economy car included.....but, they cannot confirm the dates for 72 hours and I must go ahead and pay the $799 now and take my chances the dates will pan out. If they don't, then they will work with me for another place and date.

We have never stayed in Poipu and the couple that is going with us has never been to Hawaii. We love the Kapaa area and were really looking forward to staying at The Beachboy.....Maybe, we should wait and see if we can use Marriott Rewards Points for a few nights????

Or, how about the Maui Ocean Club? Do points nights become available there.

DH says go with the Marriott package because he knows that is where I really want to stay...........but, I don't want to gamble on not being able to get my dates!!!!!!!!!! Plus, the Marriott is tacking on a $100 surcharge for it being a holiday!....Spring Break.........April 2-16th!!! Geez louise....

do you know if the Beachboy will let you pay for additional nights? I would appreciate a PM with any info on the promo there.

I am also considering the Waihoai promo this summer...

If I wanted Waiohai, I would book the Beachboy anyway as a backup and hope for the best, but only if Marriott would REFUND the $799 if the dates d/n pan out.. I would bet that resort will be packed during those dates, and full of kids if that makes any difference to you since you seem to be travelling adults-only...

We just go back last month from doing that Waiohai package. We really enjoyed it! We had stayed near Lihue on our first trip to Kauai and I liked Poipu much better. It was sort of central to everything (Waimea Canyon / Princeville). We didn't have to go to the presentation and we decided not to go, but changed our minds. Sure enough, we ended up buying our first timeshare. Those guys are good. And now I'm doing the research I should have done earlier. This site is great.

              Lance,
Did you get the date you wanted right away?

I don't think there was a problem (my wife put this together - my memory is horrible). I think we paid a deposit, got the dates, and then paid the rest? But yes, we got the dates we wanted.

                  Iceeu2,

I did the Waiohai promo in June 06. I booked in Nov. 05 just to give you an idea of my lead time-they told me my dates were wide open 6/6 to 6/11. I also booked a promo for my cousin's family for the same dates. I offered to pay in full on both accounts and they offered to "walk the reservation through" because I told them I wasn't booking unless I got the exact dates. They called me back on the same day with a confirmation number. I was working with the sales office in So. California if that makes any difference. I loved the Waiohai! We stayed up North for 3 nights and Waiohai for 5 nights. Push them a little and see what happens-they CAN do it. Good Luck!

Can Marriott owners take advantage of these promos too?

                      Emmy,

When I called I was told 'no.' But I am currently 'between Marriotts.'

Still, I wonder if you got a referral from another owner, if they would sign you up...

Emmy, you need a "friendshare" to Hawaii??

On-topic, I'd do the MAW deal in a heartbeat. Trust me, you'll want another week when it's time to go.

As Glitter mentioned, I didn't think we could take advantage of these deals at the Marriott resorts where we own but you get some nice discounts if you book through the Marriott direct, if the time and unit size is available, of course.

I was also under the impression that you can only refer a "friendshare package" at the resort where you own but that is very vague to me because each time, when you call for information, you get a different answer. Does anyone know the real scoop here?

Pat, I will contact you when we want a "friendshare deal" if you can do a friendshare referral at the MOC or at the Waiohai. Thanks very much. I also know from experience that you only earn MRPs if your referral buys and not for just referring them.

The HGVC has a much better referral package for their timeshare owners than the Marriott or the Westin. The Westin too doesn't give you anything unless the referral buys direct from the resort too at the presentation.

Thanks to the OP, I've got a pretty good deal at the Beachboy if I can find an owner to give as a referral name... it will save $200/unit and we will need two units since we're travelling w/another couple and there are only twins in the extra bedroom.. any SVC owners out there? I would much appreciate a PM. I am also considering the Waiohai, am just worried about unit location and crowds/kids (we will be sans kids) since we'll be there when kids aren't in school... I don't need a referral for that, at least not yet

                            Thanks

                            G

I recall friendsharing someone who wasn't a Marriott owner to MOC a year or so ago. They have made their reservation but haven't yet traveled, according to my panel.

Our renters in 2005 bought 2 units at NCV, so I got a nice surprise But, yes, you're right; no MRP's for referrals, only sales. But, I was happy to see they do 40K per unit, with no limit like on the MF's.
