  • Best time to purchase summer NY/HI air

Last year I bought tix 11 months out, paid about $750 r/t. They never really went up (or down), we were flying American, but it was late August so not 'prime summer.'

This summer we will be going late July, prices are already over $800. Anyone know if we can/should wait a while before buying? I don't have any vouchers or FF this time so can take any airline.

Can you Use FF miles? With the fuel going down in price. It may take a while for the airlines to lower the prices since they still have contracts at the higher priced fuel.

no FF miles but maybe the prices will come down in a few months based on the fuel prices? I hadn't considered that...

No FF miles? Read this thread on Flyertalk. You, and your spouse, can get enough miles from Chase to fly free, on UA, to HI twice a year. Yes, it works. And it is easy. My DW and I love the free trips! http://www.flyertalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=605745

In answer to your OP, most airlines will give you cash back, or credit, if the ticket price drops. So, buy now.
