  • what happened to the direct KOA to LIH flight?

A few weeks ago I found one direct KOA to LIH flight per day for our trip this summer. Now I can't find it, and of course I can't remember which airline it was. Anyone know wassup?

Go to the Hawaiian, Island Air, Aloha & go! (Mesa) websites and I bet you'll find it. My guess is Island Air or go! would be your best bets.

That's a long flight time, are you sure it's direct and not through HNL?

Flight time is way less than a hour so this may be a flight which stops in HNL but you don't have to change planes.

Yep, you're right. When I booked it (months ago) it was stay-on-the-plane with a stop in Maui. Now we have to change planes in Maui to get to Kauai.

                Avery,
I've never seen a non-stop LIH>KOA. Not enough demand I would guess. Maybe you missed the spot where it said "1" connection? Drugs do that to me sometimes.

                    It's not Alzheimers

We booked a flight in early Sept for a Dec 22 flight KOA-LIH nonstop. I have the printed (paid) itinerary to prove it. We heard from our travel agent a couple of days ago. Our flight has been re-scheduled to KOA-OGG and OGG-LIH with a change of plane. The reservation was with Island Air. The flight we had booked earlier is no longer showing on the Island Air website.

Well, there was one today, even if it wasn't scheduled :-) The Lihue-Maui flight was redirected to Kona due to weather. We were waiting in Kona to fly to Maui, which we eventually were able to do (along with all of the original Lihue-Maui passengers, albeit 2 hours late). And the good news is that most of our luggage made it!

Apparently the cargo hold got too full, so they left some of our bags on the big island. I was surprised when I got a call at 11pm here at Papakea that my luggage was at the front desk; I expected Island to bring it over tomorrow on their first flight here. I'm not sure if it came over on another carrier, or via Oahu on Island.

Accordint to their route map, the do have a direct Lihue-Kona flight, supposedly having started in September of this year.

Apparently Island Air is suffering from the fare wars started up when Mesa entered the Hawai market

Thank you for solving the mystery. Too bad, though. I guess I'll wait on booking my interisland flights a while longer. But I better book my JFK-HI flights, time's a wastin'...
