It would mean having to get to/from HNL from other islands, but no stopover b/t NY and HNL... anyone tried this flight? I haven't flown Continental in years.

I have a friend who is Hawaiian and I think she has taken this flight. She's in her late sixties and she must be tough as nails because she goes to Hawaii from New York and back at least seven or eight times each year. Just the thought of all that flying makes me a little woozy.
I'll ask her what route she thinks is the "easiest" when I see her, which should be this week.

I can't imagine flying 10+ hours to get to Hawaii. If we had to fly that long, would we go as often as we do???? I don't know.
What I don't understand is how you can still be looking at getting free flights for the summer at this point. I know I was checking as soon as United opened up their flights.Luanne

We did the direct flight out 2 years ago and it makes it easier than a layover. Going you have to watch what island your going to next as there is not enough time to catch a connecting flight. I think the exception is Maui as the airlines offer a later flight to Maui. This summer we did a layover as we were going to the BI and there was not enough time to connect from Honalulu for the direct flight. Look on the continental sight and see what flights they offer from Newark to what ever island your ending at and then just book the Continental portion with them and the rest your self. This is what we did this last summer. We took the connecting flight out but the direct flight back. Coming back it makes it easier since I wouldn't want to have a layover at 2 or 5am. The time coming back goes pretty quickly and you can sleep on the flight home.

By BIL took the non-stop on ATA EWR/HNL.
It was his first time flying. EVER!
Then he changed planes all be his lonesome and we picked hime up at LIH.
He didn't think it was a big deal except that next time he would take the aisle over window seat.
We flew thru SFO and had a huge layover. Even as a smoker I think I'd opt for the non-stop over changing planes again. I doubt that there is much of a difference what airline it is.Lawren

I got a new Citicard, supposedly I am not limited to FF seats, but we'll see...

I recently flew Continental to Hawaii...
The flight originated from PHL to Houston to HNL to Kona. HNL to Hawaii is co- partnered with Hawaiin air.
All the flights were on time and I was pleased with Continental.
Next time, I think I will stay over night in California, then proceed to Hawaii.
I thought I was going to need butt surgery,Houston to HNLBill

I did that trip once. It was great. But then again, I am the one who used to go to Singapore from Miami once per quarter. That trip was 30+ hours door to door.
A 10.5 hour flight isn't that bad if you can sleep on the plane. They give you a lot of movies to watch, read a book, sleep, eat and drink. Very relaxing. No phones ringing off the hooks and no meetings. Turn on the iPod and put on the noise cancellation headset and you will be fine.

Anyway, she didn't have a lot of leg room on the flight.

I didn't even notice at first I was just saying "oy" at the prospect of being rump-sprung and sore-legged.
