Okay, I'll do my best to make it. We are checking out on Saturday morning, but our flight isn't until about 4 pm.

      Hey Boca,

I think the resort's electrical problems is a hint to go outside and enjoy the ocean.

First time I've heard of so many things breaking down. I guess that unit was in need of more rehab then just paint, etc.

      Happy New Year!

Do you have a washer/drier in your unit there? We travel with two boys and that feature makes my packing much easier. If it does, we might add the Pono Kai to our July request. Mahalo!

No washer and dryer in the unit. There is a washer and dryer in the middle of the building and it costs $1 to wash and $1 to dry.

Bummer! I don't think they have Sunday check-in anyway, and that's what we need because our previous week is Sun-Sun.

Mostly, thanks for posting ON VACATION!! Shouldn't you be out under a palm tree or on a beach? Have you had a Puka Dog yet? Kalua pork? Mai tai?

I love it here in Kauai. It is very peaceful. The cool sea breeze and crashing waves on the beach is all I need to be completely fulfilled.

Yesterday, we took my oldest son for a flight lesson on an ultralight. Here is the website of the company we used: Birds in Paradise

He rated is as a 9.5 out of 10. He saw whales.

I am probably going to do it myself sometime this week. I met a few really cool people who know the Andy Doughty as good friends. He is the author of The Ultimate Kauai (Maui, Hawaii and Oahu) guides. You know, the blue books on Hawaii.

I am thinking about taking ultralight lessons. It looked like the closest thing to flying there is. They routinely fly inter-island here as these ultra lights are equipped with long range radar, communications and fuel to make it. Wouldn't that be fun?

It's funny you mentioned the ultralight thing. My husband wanted to fly the Ultralight in 2005 when we were there but he called too late in our week. I'll encourage him to do it this summer. I'm glad your son liked it so much. Did you reserve a spot once you got to Kauai or before you left home? Our boys are too young to ultralight (12 and 10 by travel time) but I treated them to a helicopter ride last time and they loved that.

We do have the "blue book". Do you know if the most recent publishing has enough changes to make it worth buying?

We did the Ultralite flight on Maui out of Hana. Fantastic!!! I can see how it'd be tempting to learn, if you live where you live

Any chance you'll be scouting out the Kauai Coast at the Beachboy this trip?

Go for it.....It does sound like fun. Sometimes being extremely adventurous, is just what the doctor ordered.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

                      Avery,

Yes. I plan on visiting a bunch of timeshares for the rest of this week. What would you like for me to do?

Dont go out of your way, but we are planning to go with non-t/s friends this summer, we've booked 'promo tours,' so I would love to know if you think it is nice, etc.. We've booked two separate 1 bedroom units; our friends are of the 'tres chic' variety, going to Grand Wailea when they leave us... I have told them it is going to be "roughing it with the [Glitters]" on Kauai, so their expectations are hopefully in the right place. I'm trying to use Mark/SFX's approach of "under-promise and over-deliver"

Wow. I don't know if anything in the islands of Hawaii compares to the Grand Wailea. Let me see if I can get there. I'll take some pictures for your friends.

Thanks. I know what you mean... The Grand Wailea is not my thing (we had lunch there and I was glad not to stay there), but my friends will like it, and they got in there with points. Pics would be great, but again, please don't cramp your vacation. I have heard that they have redone the units and they are supposed to be nice; if it doesn't look great, I may try to book something else instead. I was sold on the Kapaa location since we'll only have one week on Kauai.

Thanks for sharing your pics. We have so many resorts to go to in Hawaii I am not sure when we will make it to PK. One nice thing about Kapaa is that the L&L is so close.

Your right and Don't forget Kauai Pasta

It is run by a family that moved on island from Portland about 3 years ago, and the food is great.
