  • Hanalei Bay unit locations

I have a line on a few rentals. Can anyone tell me the pros/cons of staying on the ground floor in Building 9 (closest to the ocean judging from the resort map), or the second floor in Building 4 (pretty central)?

Building 9 looks closer to the water, but it appears that you have to walk up and around to take the beach path. Building 4 looks central, but is it still quiet there?

Any help would be appreciated. Emmy? Boca? Steve?

Here is the resort map for reference. Thanks

We have stayed at HBR. The whole complex is quiet. I would opt for ground floor building 9 as long as there is a view of Bali Hai on the ground unit. It is not a view to be missed.

I would find out if the second floor in building 4 has an unobstructed view. You will love this resort.

    Hope

Thanks, Hope. The listings say 'mountain and bay' view. The ground floor view, is allegedly 'unobstructed.' Some other listings say 'Bali Hai' view... forgive my ignorance, but is there a difference?

Either of these buildings will give you great views. Since these are built on a slope the second floor is close to ground level and the 1st floor in a few steps down. There are no elevators. The views are fabulous. But it is up on the cliff with a pretty long walk down to the beach.
This is the place that got us into timesharing. Even though we bought from the developer, we have never been sorry. It is one of the most beautiful & peaceful places on earth! I would be happy to answer any questions just send me a pm.

I think the higher units have the better views. But, I don't know for sure since I didn't get to enter any units.

I own at this resort and was there at the beginning of December 2006. Which Building 9 are you considering? In my opinion, the Bamboo building that is closest to the water on the map has the best view of any. If you are renting through the linked website, then it appears that you would be limited the the units with the red arrows and leasing a unit in the other Bamboo building. Given the choice, I would probably opt for the Palms building.

I think the resort map is a little deceptive when it comes to correctly showing the beach path. It really isn't much of a walk from the Bamboo buildings to the beach path, and it is relatively flat. However, the beach path itself can be pretty steep for someone who has difficulty walking.

Another thing that you should keep in mind. A little over half of the units at HBR are whole ownership. The interiors of these units are maintained by the owners and NOT by the timeshare management company. I understand that the condition of these units varies. I would check some references or get some current pictures before renting one.

The walk to the beach is steep. One visit DH had a knee injury and could not do the walk. There are golf carts that the staff routinely use to take the guests down to the beach. We were grateful!

I found a unit that is on the top floor of the Bamboo building, closest to the water, on the corner, with very lovely furnishings. The views look incredible. It is a bit more $ than the other ones, but we may have to take it.

I don't want my friends to feel like I did a "rope and dope" by switching from the very economical Kauai Coast/Beachboy to this, but it looks absolutely heavenly....

I am hoping it's available for our dates, will talk to the other couple later today

thanks all for your input, as always, you are like gold

The views from that location would indeed be incredible. I have some recent pictures from our stay, including some shots from the sidewalk on the side of that building. They are not posted online, but I can e-mail some to you.

It sounds wonderful. But, I still can't believe that with all of your timeshares you're going to be renting!

I know But with the addition of our friends in the mix, and the a/c requirement, there are limited choices...

Ok, this is what I booked. In this case I know Emmy is right, you can't get this with a t/s exchange. But the $ hurts...

It turns out that the master in the 1 bedroom unit has no a/c but the living room and lockout master do. So despite the many hours I have spent, we will give our friends the nicer king bedroom, with the corner lanai, and a/c

But we booked an extra two days after they leave, and these views are just too much to resist

                        Now onto Poipu.

Glitter, it looks incredible. Do you get your money back if you don't get at least one rainbow as shown. How long are you going to be in each location? Big island one week? Hanalei - how long, Poipu - how long?

Big Island at FFKHR 1 week, on our own (in that ridiculously large unit that our friends could easily join us in, free, but they can't make it that week )

Then, Poipu 3 nights (need to book that), on to Hanalei Bay for 6 nights.

Avery, the view is to die for and I hope you will have great weather too and a wonderful stay. It will be so nice to share it with dear friends too.

Good friends of ours rented once a condo in Wailea on Maui which we prefer over Ka-anapali Beach any day. They rented for a week for a pretty high rental fee but then the owners came to visit them one day and our friends invited them over for dinner. She was a wonderful cook. They liked our friends so much that they told them to stay as long as they wanted to stay. Our friends stayed for six weeks but only paid for one week rent! The owners of this condo had a home in Wailea too. Our friend still talks about it today as it was right on the ocean. He lost his wife since then.
