Walt, thank you for sharing your great pictures.

Another lovely sunset in Paradise. The other photos show what a difference a view makes! It is beautiful from the Ka'anapali Beach Club and plain ugly from the Point at Poipu.

Interesting to see that nobody is sitting at the pool at the new Fairfield. Why was that?

I corrected the titles for each picture.

      The Ugly is Fairfield.

Nice view Walt. See, it does pay to be an owner of the old EVR. You got fantastic views.

Does that mean that if I am an owner at Embassy Tahoe and exchange into Embassy Ka'anapali or Embassy Poipu, I stand a better chance at getting a unit with good view? I know they are no longer Embassies but aren't they still associated with one another through Sunterra?

I can answer this - the pool was not heated and freezing when we were there in mid January!!

The place looks fugly, I wouldn't sit out at that pool, even if it were warm..

No wonder why the Whaler at Kaanapali fixed units were so expensive. This view is to die for and you can just sit on your balcony and stare at the ocean any time of the day. You will love it, Babs.

                      Emmy,

Yesterday, I went to visit every single timeshare resort in Lahaina, Kahana and Napili. I've got pictures of all of them. The Whaler is really nice since it is right next to Whaler's Village in Ka'anapali Beach.

There were a couple of hidden gems. The Kuleana and Papakea are my picks for the best hidden Gems in West Maui. The Kuleana actually has a ladder that you can climb down to go snorkling or diving off the beach. The II website doesn't even have a picture for this resort. The Papakea is a large resort with lots of activity to make it feel like a nice vacation resort. I'd love to stay at either of these resorts someday.

Once you get to get to the old EVR Ka'anapali which is now called the "Ka'anapai Beach Club", the resorts are all lined up one after another all the way up through Kahana and Napili until you reach Kapalua.

There are only 3 resorts that aren't on the beach side. They are The Gardens at West Maui, Kahana Falls and Kahana Village Vacation Club. They only have ocean view units and they really aren't that great. However, if you stay at ANY of the other resorts, they all have a fantastic oceanview if you are lucky enough to get an oceanfront unit. That was another great finding.

Vacation Internationale has some great resorts in West Maui. That club warrants a closer look given the resorts that claim are part of this club.

                        Boca,

I was going to respond that Papakea was VI until I finished reading your post and found you do have reference to them. VI has agreements of some sort with the VRI/ORE alliance.

It resembles Pono Kai in a way doesn't it?

Still waiting for them to role out there in-house exchange program. Nice properties.

                          Lawren,

Yes, I notice that Vacation Internationale had space at Papakea, Hololani and Valley Isle. The Valley Isle resort is also a WorldMark resort. All of them seem to be very good.

I'd rate them Papakea first, Hololani second and Valley Isle 3rd.

I'm going to hit the Kihei resorts on Saturday. I've got a lot of relatives here now. So, they are not fond of me taking the car all day to check out resorts. They think I'm sick. Well, I am.

Wait until they find out the disease in incurable.

Sure wish I were there with you. The weather is truly disgusting here today.

I don't have the same feelings toward the Papakea Resort.

First of all, I feel it is very unfriendly. If you walk from Ka'anapali Beach Club to the Papakea resort you will encourter signs that tell you it is private property, Keep Out. Yet, I always see Papakea people comng over to use the swimming pool and Beach at the Ka'anapali Beach Club.

The 2nd reason I do feel the same about Papakea, is that one of the reasons the Ka'anapali Beach Club does not allow you to eat breakfast outdoor anymore is because guest from Papakea would come over to get a "Free" breakfast at the Beach Club. I guess they didn't think of this as stealing. I seem to recall that I saw on TUG someone writing about how easy it was to get a Free breakfast at the Embassy.

Here are some things written on TUG about Papakea.

"We did 'commute' to the Embassy every day for swimming and many meals so in many respects we had the best of both worlds."

Papakea does not have a sand beach but you can walk to the Embassy's beach in about two minutes.

"There is no beach at the resort, however just a short 3 minute walk to the left of the resort was the Embassy Sweet Beach which was nice and allowed to be used."

"The resort has app. 360 units of which only 20% are timeshare units. All others are privately owned."

Perhaps being 80% privately owned is why it appears so unfriendly.
