Boca, when we were in Maui in December, we went to look at some resorts on the ocean where we could rent in the future and we saw two resorts in that area. One was the Mana Kai Maui and the other one is the Kihei Surfside. Both had spectacular views on the ocean and Molokini. We stopped at the front desk and both resorts told us that they had a few timeshare units too. I just checked out the data base here but do not see either name listed. Would they have different names for the timeshares? Did you visit them by any chance?
We didn't see the units inside because the view was so beautiful which is most important to us. We met a couple who were staying here and they were happy with the condo. Also, there is a beautiful sandy beach in front of the Mana Kai Maui and next door to the Kihei Surfside. The buildings where next door to each other.
They also stayed at the Outrigger Palms in Wailea and highly recommended these condos. I agree that it is beautiful looking from the road and so very green too but it is still not on the ocean.
When Maui Hill was brand new, they flew us out there to see it. We even stayed there two or three nights. We were planning to buy the unit that overlooked the pool and had a distant ocean view (I believe it was unit 110 in the very first phase and they used it in their advertising) but we told them that we would make the decision the next day because we had made an appointment with the developer of the Maui Sunset at 6 PM at the resort as I had found the ad in the LA paper.
We had the meeting on their balcony on the ocean front and we watched the sunset together so we were completely sold. It was so much cooler here with the ocean breeze and we loved the wide area of the green grass which is so relaxing. It was in September so quite hot.
I remember driving up to the resort and my first impression was that it looked like a fortress or a prison with the tiny bathroom windows facing the outside of the building so not very inviting but once we walked through the opening to the inside of the two buildings wide apart, it felt like we were in an oasis. We don't regret that we bought here and still like it very much except for the lot of seaweed we saw last December.
A year or so ago, we went back to see the Maui Hill again and like that resort too. They have kept it up very well and the units higher up must have an ocean view too. We talked to some people here and they loved it and said that it was so quiet. They are fixed units too so you can have one with an ocean view as that is important to you too, I know.
