  • Greetings from Maui

It looks like the ocean is calmer now but it was rough this morning and extremely rough yesterday at our usual snorkeling spot (Ulua beach). Maui Dreams canceled all dives yesterday and today. My SO has rescheduled for a later date for the Specialty of the month as he has a cold too. We still have time.

Some other dive companies went in the water anyway and it was very hard for the divers with all their equipment to go through the heavy surf. We heard that there was a rip tide too further out. The Maui Dreams Dive Co. is more responsible, imho.

One person broke his neck yesterday but he was warned not to go surfing, from what I understand. One vacation that ended up very tragically and I hope that he or she isn’t paralyzed for life.

Weather is perfect for walking or playing golf or sitting on a little terrace too. We still see whales from the shore and even from our lanai. I have been watching whales playing and jumping for the last ten minutes now. Not a single boat in sight because it was so rough this morning but now the ocean looks calm again. You never know about the weather from one minute to the next.

I swear if I read another "greetings from [insert your own wonderful exotic place]" post, I am just gonna die!

Have a wonderful time, Emmy. Hope the waters calm down so you can go snorkeling. Have a drink with an umbrella in it for me!

Emmy, have a wonderful time! Ulua beach looks lovely, we never found that one when we were in Wailea. Hopefully the sea will calm down for you soon.

Hope the surf changes so you can snorkle, but it's not too bad watching whales until then, is it?
Enjoy!! and good thing you have time so you can wait for better conditions.

I second Pat, post pictures if you can please.

We haven't taken many pictures this time because he doesn't take his camera with him half the time and I still don't have one. We have been to the same places so many times already.

We went to Hana on Easter day but my SO was in a hurry because he had booked a brunch at the Hana Hotel there. I wanted to stop to take pictures of the rain forest as it was such a beautiful day but he said we had taken them all before which is true. We took some of a beach with the lava rocks and I will try to post these later. There were only a few waterfalls as it must have been quite dry here. So far, no rain.

We took some pictures on our way to Peruse Bay and will try to post these. They are of the lava flow as you don't see many on Maui. We don't take the camera with us when we go snorkeling either because everything was stolen out of our car once before when we were snorkeling at Peruse Bay. We learned our lesson.

I will make sure that he takes the camera along when we go on the Trilogy sailboat to Lanai next week. We have never done this before.

We went to see the Marriott new Lahaina tower and my SO took lots of pictures there which I uploaded already to our Smugmug album. Here they are, if you are interested.

We have been snorkeling most days and every day, conditions and visibility have been improving which is good for my SO because he is going to take an under water photography lesson tomorrow with a dive included. I hope he will come home with some nice pictures so I can post them.

Visibility was very nice today and we saw so many beautiful fish of different varieties. We still haven't seen any turtles or manta rays during this trip but other people have seen them who go to the second reef further out. I don't dare to go that far. I didn't hear any whales today like the other day when I was snorkeling and we haven't seen them from our balcony either the last two days.

We still hope to see them on our way to Lanai on Tuesday. That will be our last day in paradise until next year.

Mike, we have a nice view from our lanai but we haven't had any spectacular sunsets yet. Here are a few pictures.

View from our lanai early in the morning but pool wasn't open yet.

A partial sunset from our lanai.

A sunset from the water's edge but none have been very spectacular.

Hi Emmy, what unit number are you in? Your views are lovely! Btw I had a couple mornings of storms in South Beach, but it made for a much more impressive sea, and also when it cleared and the storm clouds moved away it was magical to behold.

Have fun and thanks for posting!

Thanks for the pictures of the Marriott, I had been having a hard time imagining where it was going up and those were the first pictures I've seen.

We are in building A on the fifth floor which is unit 516. The higher the numbers the closer to the ocean and they are two bedroom units only. I was visiting someone at unit 506 today and the view was just as good. If you go further back, you will hear the road noise. There is a lot of traffic here. We stayed at 109 (first floor) last December and heard no noise at all.

Carol, you will get the unit that the owner deposited with RCI as they are fixed units and fixed time. They told me that they do not change it unless there is a problem.
