  • Aloha from Waikiki Beach!

It has been hot and humid and this is the first time for us to experience this in Hawaii. They have had some storms as the waves are higher too than normal but we are enjoying our stay. How can you not with a view like this?

    First day

    Sunrise next morning

Here is a close-up picture of the "Pink Palace" which is a historical hotel on Waikiki Beach (Sheraton Royal Lahaina Hotel).

Yesterday, we took a quick courtesy tour (no freebies) at the Wyndham Beach Walk resort. The tour only lasted 15 minutes as they showed us a 1 and 2 br unit and the pool area as we wanted to see that. We hardly discussed prices or points as we told them right upfront that we were not interested in purchasing anything and they got the hint pretty fast so didn't waste time with us.

The 2 br unit was very nice but the 1 br unit wasn't as luxurious in furnishings or the bathroom and kitchen either but still nice enough. Hardly any condos will have a view of the ocean from what we could tell except for the penthouse at the top. They are building the Trump tower right in front of this resort and it will be 38 stories high. The resort is very close to the beach but not on the beach. Right now, there is a lot of construction noise going on but only during the day. Lewers Street has improved a lot from when we saw it two years ago.

We had a hard time finding the "Pink Palace" from the street. Anyway, it was nice to be here for a few days and we will be back again but on the other side of Waikiki Beach closer to Diamond Head. It is less congested there and we like staying at this hotel. We always ask for the same room but this time they gave us a higher floor yet.

We are off to Maui tomorrow. Our week is over before we know.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

We are still on Maui but should have left already

We arrived here last Friday but my husband had a stroke so ended up in ICU at the Maui Memorial Hospital where he still is. We don't know exactly when we can leave. He is paralyzed on one side but he is mentally alert but less today. He fell out of bed last night as he wanted to get up and felt that he could do it. He had a CAT scan but I haven't had the results yet.

I have had a lot of support from the TS4Mrs and TUGgers too and TPI came through with a unit on a very short notice so I am staying at the Maui Schooner thanks to Lawren and TPI. I will stay one night at the Westin with Short and her husband. Short is a member here and on TUG. They offered me to stay as long as they were there themselves but the drive from Ka-anapali Beach to the hospital is quite long and Kihei is much closer. I will be staying there next week too, if necessary.

I am still hoping for the best and that we can go home pretty soon. We had a wonderful few days on Oahu but things changed in Maui. Peter was parking his car when the stroke occurred so we were very lucky that he wasn't driving on the winding road to Lahaina as it could have been a disaster for us and other drivers too.

Sorry to read the newest development. You two be careful. It take time to recover, no need to rush.

Emmy, I'm glad TPI worked out for you...I've not had any luck with them myself. To find something on Maui on such short notice is really hard...so you truly were blessed in your time of need. I do so much hope the best and speediest recovery for Peter and wish you the best too as you cope with this health challenge in your family. I thought of you all the while I was at Maui Sunset, not knowing what had happened to Peter and to you. When things settle down I'll share my very positive impressions of your home resort on Maui. Until then, take good care.
