  • Ke Nani Kai

I just arrived at Ke Nani Kai on Molokai. This is a really cool place because there really aren't that many people here. I flew over from Oahu on a Cessna 8 seater. I love those little planes because they are so easy to board and get your luggage on and off of it.

I had a google map with me when I got here, but those were useless since there aren't many signs anywhere. I called ahead and Lisa, the manager, told me to go to the grocery store first. It was pricey, as I spent $100 just for me. My family will be coming later in the week so they don't miss much school.

The unit is clean and comfortable. Not luxurious, but fine for me. If we were on the second floor, we would have an ocean view. The grounds are very well manicured and clean. What I love about this place is it is very quiet. Reminds me of when I lived in the country in New Jersey.

There is wireless in this unit. But, the signal is very weak. So, my wireless router isn't getting a strong enough signal to keep a phone call up with vonage. I'll have to use a calling card this week. I would use Skype, but my PC headset is broken.

This is what I've always wanted to do. Go to the remotest places on earth and still stay connected via the internet. It makes the world a much smaller place.

Was there last summer. No wireless in my unit/area. Never saw Lisa, traded voicemails the whole time. Watch out for the flock of wild turkeys that come through (what an ugly bird, and Benjamin Franklin wanted it to be the National bird!) Gotta do the Mule Ride!

We also enjoyed Ke Nani Kai - as well as Moloka'i in general. Very laid back.

Be sure to do the Friday night at Moloka'i Hotel. We did the mule ride to Molokai for most of the day on Friday, went to Moloka'i Hotel for some drinks and relaxation after the mule ride, then to the Cookhouse for dinner. That's about as much of a "pnanned day" as one can do on Moloka'i. When you go to the Hotel, you smell like mule, but it's no biggie.

I would say that we are ready to go back. Certainly mo betta than Wa'ikiki.

Not this girl. I've seen Steve's pictures and I'm afraid of heights.

Yikes!!! Steve......You'd never get me to ride a mule on that mountain. Heck, I'd barely be able to peek over the top.

Did you know that mules are capable of striking out with any of their hooves in any direction?.....Not to mention that they stink to high heaven.

Scared of mules, and don't like heights.....Not a good combination.

            Jim.....Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Actually, when visiting Molokai you don't "gotta do the mule ride". But, I do strongly suggest that you visit Kalaupapa. We went by plane, the "fly in/fly out" option. Very enjoyable. And definitely go to the Molokai Hotel Friday night. We ate dinner there after the entertainment and had a table right by the water. Wonderful.

This is a GLORIOUS day in a spectacular location. I love it here.

I love the fact that there aren't many people here. It is so quiet. All I can hear is the wind blowing and the birds singing in the background.

This must be how Hawaii was 50 years ago.

                  I'm definitely coming back here.

It doesn't hurt that it is a partly cloudy, 74 degree day with 10 mph tradewinds from the northeast.

                  It doesn't suck in paradise....
