Kauai trip planning help please

Well, time to start thinking about early 2010 and we're planning on two weeks on Kauai.

I've done enough research to know that we do not want to stay in Princeville. Coming from the Pacific Northwest, if I want rain in the wintertime, I can stay home!!

I think I have two questions to start. How is the weather in Kapaa area? There seem to be a number of timeshares there but if it still rains quite a bit, that wouldn't be good for us.

I have fairly decent traders in both RCI and Interval. If possible, we'd love to get back to back weeks in the same resort. Is that feasible for Poipu resorts? Might I be better at independents, maybe HTSE?

HTSE is the best bet for finding timeshare in Hawaii, JMHO.

If you want Poipu, RCI does have several that you can request.

Hawaii is in the tropics, and rain is a fact, you will get it at some time, but yes, your chances of getting it more frequently are from Kapaa north to Princeville. Poipu is your best chance for sunny.

Kapaa is convenient location to airport, but rather congested since it is a central commerce area, but the beaches are nice around the area.

Really can't speak to the weather in winter. I'm sure others can.

If you want back to back weeks at Lawaii Beach Resort go with HTSE. They have buckets of time there. Just log-in using our guest id and take a look around. User id 9999 password htse.

Hi neighbor

The weather on Kauai is somewhat fickle.

We have had winters with no rain at all for a 3 week trip , or others where we didn't see the sun for the entire trip.

The big difference between there and here is that it is warm there

The poipu area is like west Maui, it is the driest, then the east side, Kapaa area, and the most beautiful parts of then island are from Princeville north to Ke'e beach at the end of the road.

Is it just you and dh?

Or are you taking others?

Our favorite resort on the island is the Pono Kai in Kapaa.

Not the newest, or fanciest, just a comfortable place on 11 flat ocean front acres, with a/c in the living area and elevators.

Both the Marriott's and the Poipu @ the Point( former Embassy) , are nice.

Lawai beach has some nice units and sits close a great winter snorkel beach.

Kapaa shores has mostly view units, and the Shell Kauai Beach Boy is one of the newer resorts, nice units, a/c, most with a peek of ocean.

The Kauai Beach resort has some nice units, some of/ov, most garden or lagoon view.

You can't really go wrong with either area.

Thanks all. We will probably be looking for two bedroom units as we usually end up having somebody tag along, plus it helps with the expenses.

We're really torn as we'd love to go to Kauai, but we love the Big Island too, and Kona is pretty much a good bet to get sun, although it was cloudy for the first week of our trip there this year.

I'll probably have more questions as we go along. I'll have to look at HTSE's site and forum a little more closely

I got five back-to-back weeks at Lawai Beach Resort (2 br) plus an extra 2-br unit for visiting rellies through HTSE - they were very helpful and prompt with communication, etc.

We are sitting in a 2 BR at LBR RIGHT NOW!! Got through HTSE with a 2BR Calini week (red, but not bright red). It would be very possible to get back to back weeks here in winter, but request EARLY. I requested 2 years in advance, and requested within a 6 week span to start off. As I got my Maui week first, I recalled to narrow my search. I was also successful with this approach 3 years ago.

Weather is great, near 80, and snorkeling is wonderful right across the street from LBR! Aloha!

We have stayed in Princeville, Poipu, Lihue and Kapaa.
Princeville in June. Rained only at night.
Poipu in June no rain.
Lihue in April no rain
Kapaa in June no rain.
Princeville is beautiful but all the way at one end of the island. Nice if you want to get away from everyone.
Kapaa at Pono Kai was good. Nothing fancy, but clean rooms and elevators. Easy to walk into town to get coffee or eat.The water is too rough to swim right out of the resort, but there are beaches near.
Poipu has great weather and is our favorite. We stayed at the Astin which I think is part of the Resortquest chain. Nice condos and easy to walk to the water.
It's the tropics and there is always a chance of rain, but it's warm rain.

Well, I do appreciate the help but the verdict has come down. We're back to the Big Island. Since Hubby lets me have pretty much what I want, I'll concede on this one. We'll have to save Kauai for another time.
