Yeah, I know. We booked our units at about the same time. We missed you Red. We didn't see any new lava flows, but the vent is spewing out sulphur dioxide and the Kona area is overrun with VOG (I guess that means Volcano Fog). When it does blow, I am going to take a flight over there hoping to see a true eruption with 200 foot plumes of red firey molten rock.

        That's why it erupted.

Good thing we cancelled the trip....we would have possibly been stuck in Kona due to Aloha cancelling all operations and we absolutely had to be back by today....wow.

The VOG was really bad today, even in Maui. My eyes are still burning now and I am used to the smog in LA. Today was really a very grey day and we couldn't even see the island we usually see or the Haleakala crater, this morning. Also, the waves were big and there were hardly any beaches along the road and there was even some spray on the road to Lahaina today. I have never seen this before. You also can see the damage from the fires about a year or so ago. It looks like CA without rain.

Why is the recent eruption considered the first one in 84 years? I thought it erupted in 1959: The Eruption of Kilauea Volcano at Kilauea Iki Crater, Nov. 14 - Dec. 20, 1959, Hawai`i
