(Now you know what Pat was talking about! )
I was teasing Paul about his ownership - which he has been having some 'issues' with in regards to trade power....

I know this is a bit OT but Starwood resorts are really fabulous and if you can travel during non-school Holiday times...a Starwood/Westin/Sheraton resale can really get you to wonderful resorts at a much lower purchase price point as compared to a Marriott resale.

    Sheraton non-Orlando resales are anywhere from $600-3,000 for a 1BR - 2BR - 2BR L/O - EY and EOY.....and they have a 3 day Starwood preference that is fantastic!

Back on topic - Hawaii Starwood owners pay over $2,000 MF for a 2BR unit so renting a 2BR for $3,500 in prime season is not out of line -$2,200 for a 1BR and $1,500 for a studio the resort rents for $400+taxes per day...is still pretty good.

I rent my garden view studio in Aruba at the Marriott Surf Club in March for $1300.....at 1/3 the Marriott.com price

Guest room, 1 Queen, Sofabed, Ocean view (similar to GV) Room details
485.00(USD)per night Rate rules Reserve a Room
    Oceanview guest room,1queenbed,1sofabed,microwave,small fridge, coffeemaker,toaster - balcony * Max occ 4**
    With tax = 523 X 7= $3665

    1BR for $1,800-1,900 about 1/3 and less then a half of marriott.com

1 Bedroom Villa, 1 King, Sofabed, Ocean view Room details
620.00(USD)per night Rate rules Reserve a Room
    Onebedroom Oceanview - 1bed/1bath,full kitchen,livingroom,1king 1sleepsofa,washer/dryer in room,balcony * Max 4 ppl**
    with tax = 669.60 X 7 = $4687

    and the 2BRs
2 Bedroom Villa, Bedroom 1: King, Bedroom 2: Queen, Sofabed Room details
785.00(USD)per night Rate rules Reserve a Room
    Twobedroom Gardenview-2bed/2bath,full kitchen,living room,1king 1queen bed,2sofabeds,washer/dryer in room,balcony* Max 8ppl**
2 Bedroom Villa, ocean view Room details
810.00(USD)per night Rate rules Reserve a Room
    Twobedroom Oceanview villa-2bed/2bath,full kitchen,livingroom 1king/1queen,2sleepsofas,washer/dryer in rm * Max 8 ppl**

It is all about what the market will bear - but I also agree, make an offer - all they can say is NO.

I rented a studio ocean view at the Marriott Ocean in Aruba in April 2006 for $700 thanks to NTHC.

Re:"Back on topic - Hawaii Starwood owners pay over $2,000 MF for a 2BR unit so renting a 2BR for $3,500 in prime season is not out of line -$2,200 for a 1BR and $1,500 for a studio the resort rents for $400+taxes per day...is still pretty good".

When I've rented my own units, I factor in the MF and then a little towards the initial cost, but never, ever anything approaching +$1,500. Maybe I'm just obtuse. I could rent out Allen House for big $$$, but never do. It's just not me. Don't get me wrong, I make a small profit, but not at anyone's expense not saying that you do, Pat. I'm referring to some of the more astronomical fees I've seen. Fortunately, they go unrented. Tee Hee.
If I know the person, I don't make a profit. I once took pity on someone who cried poor and won't do that again. Please ask for references when renting to a Sandiego.

No offense taken Beags - and u know between us we have worked out very satisfactory 'deals' - it is all about what is acceptable to each party.

If I am renting or 'direct exchanging' with someone here or a friend or family member, that is a different story.....and while I don't agree with the people asking for $4500 for a March week at the Surf Club - it is their right to ask.

NTHC does last minute rentals I believe - so also the lead time is a factor for what u pay.

Renting thru RedWeek and elsewhere to a "non-friend" - the savvy/smart consumer knows they can get a GREAT deal renting directly from the TS owner - so I think everyone benefits from those sites.

ahhh, I remember SanDiego - they almost didn't let me in Allen House because of her!

          Pat, thanks !
Yes, we have done some good, fair & even exchanges as "friends don't let friends rent (or buy) retail !".
If folks want to ask and folks want to pay those prices (less than rack rate) , well then it's a win-win for both. B

              Thanks,

Kaanapali Beach Club is also a very nice resort and so is the Marriott MOC and then there is the Whaler right next door to the Whalers Village. There is a boardwalk right on the beach so you can walk to the restaurants, shopping or other resorts. All four timeshare resorts are on the famous Ka'anapali Beach but there are lovely beaches and coves too on the rest of the island.

              Have you tried http://www.vrbo.com/?

Even at these prices? I know what I would do in their case but everyone is different.

                    Paul,
Please try Welcome to Timeshares Only - The World̢۪s Largest Timeshare Resale & Rental Marketplace

Make sure the "rent" tab is selected. It defaults back to "buy" (clever !).

See, I can't leave the country for a week without this stuff happening !

I hope that they struck a good deal. Timesharesonly is a company that I've dealt with (bought & rented from) and all was seamless.
