Today, I went to my first Ho'olaule'a May Day celebration for my two younger boys. Wow, this is what being in Hawaii is all about.
Basically, May Day is a very popular date in Hawaii as elementary schools around the state celebrate Hawaii traditions by showcasing children of all ages singing and dancing Hula.
All of the children dress in Hawaiian garb and each grade gets an opportunity to sing and dance, blow conch shells and play the ukulele. I have some pictures that I will post as soon as I get a chance.
I am quite sure I have never experienced anything quite like it. It is a way for the youngsters to preserve Hawaiian traditions. It was a GREAT day.
