  • Heavy rain and flooding in Hawaii

Big island mentioned, not sure about others.

Hilo side always gets more rain

We were in Kona this last September and rained heavily in the area on our first day and then little more. Not that much on the west windward side, but we had heard that the eastern wetter side had flooding then too. Kind of funny how islands can be so diverse in weather. We found the humidity to be very high on the Kona side of the Big Island, but for September, that's normal. Have plans of going to the BI? We are going back for visit #2 in October.

This has been the longest stretch of cool/windy/rainy weather I remember in a long time.

For the past couple of weeks most days have been cloudy & breezy. We are expecting more heavy rains this Wednesday

That picture of the Kauai Beach Club is ugly but that is how it looks on all the Islands in areas that had the heaviest rain.

We are fortunate that we live on a drier side of Oahu and have not had the flooding.

Wow, those of us who have visited Hawai'i are hoping that the rains give you all a break.

The news of all the dirty water is also unsettling...I do hope folks who visit will stay clear of the water and not risk getting exposed to the bacteria.
Life is short, live it with this awareness.

Well...it's now been raining at our house for over 1 hour now...strong, steady, rain. The weather service has issued a flash flood warning from 5:00 pm today until Thursday!

The Windward side of Oahu is getting hit hard. Hopefully this system will pass sooner than expected.

Attached is a figure from Google earth showing Koloa town and Waita Reservoir looking to the northeast from a vantage point just about dorectly over Lawai Beach Resort.

If I have the drainage and topography down correctly, flood waters would generally sweep across Koloa town from the northeast. The water would then flow down toward Koloa landing, generally following Poipu Road. All low lying areas between the Poipu Bypass and Koloa landing would likely be flooded.

                            Wow!

I saw some footage on the news this morning. AMAZING! and those poor people...

on a lighter note I guess we don't post north shore sightings until they fix that road or we will have people sleeping in thier cars like the quote in you news clip.
