Each year I lug my laptop to Kauai to keep up with my home based business, to read personal emails and of course, to see what's happening on the travel boards. This year I decided to do something different. I left my laptop computer at home and the second day we were on the south shore we headed up to the Koloa Public Library which is at the Koloa Elementary School. The extremely helpful gentleman gave me the options of using the public computers and I elected to buy a 5 year Hawaii State Library Card for $25. While it wasn't quite as convenient as having my own computer, it was an great alternative at both Kaloa and Princeville. Unfortunately, I left the Waikoloa Marriott with a huge pain in the foot! Tom was golfing in their tournament while I stayed in the condo in peace and quiet with a good book. As I walked by the couch, I somehow managed to hit my left foot on the leg--that couch didn't move an inch! Needless to say I broke two of the toes and after a few choice words and a tear or two, I knew I was going to be gimping around for a couple of weeks--a prophecy that came true! After five days at the Marriott Waikoloa, we packed up and headed to the airport to meet my brother, sister-in-law, their widowed daughter-in-law, their grandson, Nick, age 13 and our granddaughter age 17. The two kids have been to Kauai together before and are great pals--both love the water, love to boogie board and are super travelers. Since we had some extra time, we stopped off at the Waldon Book Store (one of my favorite Kauai stores) and I found two good mysteries set in Hawaii. The first one, "Wipeout" by Chip Hughes takes place on Oahu and Lanai and is about a missing Oahu North Shore big surf surfer. The second book is "Murder Casts a Shadow" by Victoria Nalani Kneubuhl and also takes place on Oahu but is set in the 1930's and involves the theft of a priceless painting from a museum which involves a murder. The museum in the book is amazingly like Oahu's Bishop Museum. Both books are my kind of mysteries--a dead body but not too many details on all the blood and gore, plus a fast moving story full of tropical locations and fun (and some that are not so fun) characters. After we got everyone picked up, we headed to Duke's Bare Foot Bar in the Kauai Marriott at Kalapaki Bay for our traditional first meal on island. Then we all trudged up the hill to Princeville on the north shore and checked into our timeshares that we own at Pahio at Ka E'o Kai AKA Wyndam at Ka E'o Kai. Me ke aloha pumehana, Juleen
