Paige is 17 and braver than she should be, as most teens are! She's a junior life guard and a great boogie boarder. She wanted to go to Kealia Beach where her father boogie boarded many years ago. Before we went we told her we would take her, but, during the time she was there, Kealia was having 9 and 10 foot waves which both Tom and I were worried about. She thought she could handle them, we know about the ramifications if she couldn't! After much discussion, Tom and I agreed, we would not take her there. I know she was very disappointed, but, it was a decision we felt had to be made and she was good sport about it. Yesterday, I went to see my doctor (routine visit), and she told me of a 22 year old patient of hers that last month (not sure of which island), was thrown to the sand while boogie boarding. This young man broke his neck and will be a quadraplegic the rest of his life. I think we made the right decision--even though it was not a popular one. Me ke aloha pumehana, Juleen
