    Heading to Hawaii?
Just in time for the end of summer, Delta Air Lines is offering discounted one-way fares between Hawaii and select domestic cities now through September 18, 2008. Fares to Honolulu (HNL) start as low as $279 from LAX, capping at $379 from Charleston, SC (CHS) or Washington-Dulles (IAD). Flights are also on sale to Kona (KOA) and Lihue (LIH) from Atlanta ($349), LAX ($299, $289) and JFK ($369). There are no blackout dates, however travel must be completed by November 19, 2008. I'm looking to go to Hawaii next July ( from the NJ area). Right now it's about $1000 pp/rt direct. Excluding gas and other unforeseen increases will the tend to go down or up this far out, as time gets closer? Or i guess i should ask, when is the typical "cheapest" time to get tickets to Hawaii?

I read on airfarewatchdog that the airlines begine to actively manage their flights at 4 months from departure date. That was true to the exact day for my October flights to Hawaii. Still waiting for the 4 month mark on the February trip.

We are also are still waiting for our February trip. So you are saying that during this month (October) is when we should hopefully see a change in the prices? Is that for all airlines or certain ones?

The article I read was a just a general 'when should I book' article, not related to any specific airline. It said shop at 11 month out and check frequently so you know what a good price is, then get ready to pounce inside 4 months when you see a good price. The flight I wanted was Hawaii Air that went from $925 to $400 (approx). The flight I booked early because fellow travelers were getting nervous was US Air, I booked a $700 and it dropped to $435. I rebooked at the lower rate but US Air charges $150 per ticket change fee so that ate a lot of difference.

It's hard to sit and wait when you live in a market(Sacramento) that has one airline (Hawaiian) who flys directly to Hawaii. All the other carriers go through San Franciso or Salt Lake or other locations and it takes forever to get there. We usually are on a tight schedule and will pay the premium to gaurantee a flight. My wife always points out that if we waited we could have got a better price. I always point out the people who are on standby that don't get on the plane.

I keep seeing prices dropping for fall travel. Just go another notice from farecompare.com and was looking at HA last week.

                Still no joy

Oil is down to $75 a barrel and prices have not dropped for Jan/Feb travel to Hawaii. Over 1K for a PHX/OGG direct flight, almost 700 for a hop to LAX before OGG. It's gotta drop soon...

AA is offering $299 round trip from LAX for a last minute booking. Under $300 is the price at which I normally will book. Unfortunately, it's a little too busy for me to take off right now, but for those who can, that's a good price.

                    Wish I could go....

I thought you said you booked tickets for over $1200 which is why RCI Points was a bad deal. I guess with tickets at $299, the RCI Points deal isn't so bad anymore, huh?
