  • When and where in Hawaii

    1. Any times of year in Hawaii to avoid weather? Rainy season? We want to travel in January or February of '09.

    2. Which island? We want to avoid the parts that are very built up, and we're not big party-people. When we travel we look for beauty, nice beaches, quiet, local culture, and nearness to a some nature-adventures.

Thanks for any Hawaii advice! Oh, and we're looking at Interval resorts.

Wait, no need to be redundant. I just found the answer to my weather question. Should have looked before I asked! But please help with location :-)

South side of Kauai sound like what you'd like. Generally the best weather in winter and not very populated. Whales are seen close to shore during Jan. and Feb. Kauai is the Garden Isle.

I would have to agree with SherryS, Kauai to us is the most relaxing of all the islands. We were in Kauai this past March and had a wonderful time. We stayed on the North end in the Princeville area. Had read all the horror stories about the rain in that area, but we did not have any during the day for the eight days we were there. Maybe just lucky...

I did notice that a lot of the II resorts are in the Princeville area, but there are some in the south.

We are going to Oahu in February for NFL Pro Bowl and then over to Maui for a few days, but we are still contemplating a few days in Kauai because it was so relaxing this last time.

I would recommend the big island. It is incredibly interesting geologically. The northwest shore has beautiful beaches, the southwest shore amazing snorkeling but rocky beeaches. To the east, Volcanoes National Park. i never made it inland, but apparently there are beautiful valleys and cowboy country. Weather is drier there, less likely to rain.

We've been to all of the major islands except Lana'i. With regard to what you said you are looking, Kaua'i is the by far the best selection.

It has the most natural beauty. It has more miles of beaches than any other island, and with a smaller population the beaches are very uncrowded. It is quiet, no party atmosphere at all. It retains as much of the local culture as any of islands except maybe Molokai. (Ni'ihau has the most local culture, but you can't visit there.) And there are lots of nature adventures. If you like hiking, Kaua'i hiking trails are simply spectacular.

It's also relatively easy to get timeshare exchanges into Kaua'i.
