Greetings from Maui - it is slow and hurting.

Here at the Westin Maui...no problems getting lounges poolside at anytime we want. It is not very crowded here at the resort. I do not know the occupancy but will try to find out.

We have been to Front Street in Lahaina twice already and no problems parking on Front Street nor any crowd issues. The retailers are crying and several empty storefronts are apparent. We have no complaints about it being slow but we feel for the businesses and people. And this is supposed to be a busy time. We feel the first week of January will be a ghost town.

The South road to Hana is now open and has been for a few months now or so we have been told. We plan to go that way to Maui Stables for some horseback riding and to spend a couple of nights.

    Aloha and Mele Kalikimaka.

    Will report more later.

Thanks for the update about business and tourism currently in Maui. We usually rent our Maui Lea week, but this year we figured it might be tough to rent it, so we are going ourselves. We booked a trade for the week before at the Maui Schooner, and will cap off the trip with a couple days at Waikiki before departure. I think car rental prices are coming down considerably, and I expect the tour operators may be offering discounts, so this sounds like a great time to travel. I would be interested to hear if the whale watch and snorkeling tours are being discounted, and if the restaurants and other merchants are advertising more specials than usual.

        Have a great vacation!

Merry Christmas to you and your family and enjoy Maui.
Visit our favorite restaurant Kimo's and try the Opakapaka.
Their hula pie is a hit with our family too.

You are there already? Yesterday, you posted from here but that's the way it is today. I love reading the greetings from places that I am familiar with.

You will love the road to Hana and have time to stop at some beautiful places on your way since you have more time. I am sure you have "Maui Revealed" too so you have a guide in your car so to speak.

Glitter B got you tempted to do the hang gliding experience as she liked it so much. Let's hope you can do it too and we get a report from you.

Hey Emmy....We have been here since 12/19. I was posting from the Westin.

Today we went swimming, boogie boarding, and snorkeling at Napili Bay....we love that place. Saw the biggest turtle underwater than I have ever seen. It was bigger than me.....about a big as Big Frank....seriously. Same area we saw an eel and an octopus along with all the usual. It was great plus a double rainbow going into the bay. It is raining off and on but that is to be expected. A little on the windy side but that is supposed to calm down in a day or two.

We have our Christmas lights and fresh cut wreath in our room. The kids are looking forward to Santa's arrival.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good nite.
