  • Any info on Pahio Makai Club in Kauai?

New to this website, although we have had timeshares for years. Great interaction and info here.

I have browsed a lot and find all sorts of interaction on Wyndham and/or Fairfield, but no references to Makai Club (different than Makai Club Cottages!). We own an every other year unit at Makai Club, which is managed now by Fairfield, and I can't even get a person to talk to directly at Makai Club. I thought someone familiar with Kauai northshore might clue me in to our own resort!

I've driven by the Makai Club. It's pretty close to the Hanalei Bay Resort. It's a pretty small resort and not very fancy and a bit hidden away. I didn't get to see any of the units inside. I have some pictures somewhere. What do you want to know?

I thought perhaps another Makai Club member might be out there somewhere! Our maintenance fees went up to $840 this year compared to under $400 two years ago (I have every other year) and we thought there was going to be needed renovations. I haven't been able to talk to anyone at Fairfield that knows anything about it. Also, at least one of the golf courses were to be refurnished, so I guess I will just call the Makai and Princeville courses.

I know there are some Makai club owners at TUG.

Re maintenance fees. Hawai'i maintenance fees have always been high, and in the last two years prices in Hawai'i for almost all goods and services have increased much greater than in the mainland. Hence, annual fees for timeshares are increasing quickly.
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

        “You shouldn't wear that body.”

OUCH! Wow, that is some increase. I guess someone on this board should have a Wyndham contact number for you....if you got a bill, there should be someway to contact the originator of the bill.

As for the club, it is a small set of buildings, several stories high, in a quiet area of the Princeville resorts area. We never stayed there, but stayed at Makai Cottages, adjacent to the Club. Some folks very much enjoyed the untis, according to pool talk, and others felt they were very much in need of renovations. Overall, the impression from those staying there was that it was cozy and adequate, but nothing exceptional.
Life is short, live it with this awareness.

Thanks for the replies! I will poke around Tug, also, for some feedback.

We stayed at the Makai Club once after we purchased, and it was adequate, but really in need of updating. I just hope our increase in MF was put to good use!

So, KatieMack, I'll be looking to a miracle in 2009

Yeah, what most are saying. A person once friendly to me, Doug Wilson, aka Makai Guy, and a mucky muck OY, owns there, or use to.

I've been familiar with them for 10 years, and know it to be a lesser Kauai resort, the only one that my lesser Orlando trader could see. We had two weeks booked there but were able to switch both of them to 2-bedroom Gold Crowns on the beach at Poipu in the 14-day window.

Like others have said, we too daytriped to Princeville and checked them out. They are on the other golf course in Princeville and nowhere near the beach.

Makai Club has had a rough past.

                Makai Club Cottages

As i understand it, the Makai Club Condos and Cottages were allowed to get a bit rundown, but now Wyndham has taken over management. There was a special assessment to take care of the things that had gotten "worn". I own at the Makai Club Cottages and, while I wasn't happy about the special assessment, it was true that a TS which was basically very pleasant needed a lot of help. The cottages are free-standing; I haven't seen the condos. They look out over a valley in a very quiet setting (except for the roosters!) I've had trouble getting in there because there are only a few cottages, but when I did get in about a year ago, I love it!

It's been 10 years since we visited Kauai, and I always get a chuckle when someone mentions the wild chickens.
