I would appreciate advice re: II & RCI possible exchanges from 5 Dec 2009 - 27 March 2010. If availability opens up, how soon might it be?
RE: II - I only seem to find Hawaii out to about January at best. It doesn't seem to matter which deposit I search with. I can't find any Hawaii on Kauai or Oahu for 20 Dec 2009 - 1 Jan 2010. If I place ongoing searches, I will have limited internet 3-22 Oct while I'm in Rio, then no internet 22 Oct-5 Nov while I am in Antarctica. I will have limited internet with I am in Tahiti 6 Nov - 5 Dec. I noticed when they found matches for my prior ongoing searches during the night, I never even received a email. I only figured out when I searched on the deposit the following morning and the search window was limited to 60 days because they had confirmed one of my requests.
RE: RCI - I can't find any Hawaii on Kauai or Oahu for 20 Dec 2009 - 1 Jan 2010. The search results vary greatly depending on which deposits I search against.
These are my current plans:
6 Nov - SFO-HNL-PPT - would love to know if there is a convenient way to leave a piece of luggage at/near HNL so until we fly back from Tahiti.
5 Dec -PPT-HNL-LIH (Lihue, Kauai)
5-12 Marriott Kauai Beach Club one bedroom w/II exchange
12 Dec - Marriott points for one night gap unless II has availablity for earlier check in
13-20 Dec - Marriott Kauai Beach Club one bedroom w/II exchange
I'd like to stay on Kauai until about 1/1 but the best I have is
20 Dec - 1 Jan -Fairway Villa with VI (Vacation Internationale) points. I can cancel w/o penalty 30 days before
1-15 Jan - Big Island - VI's Sea Mountain - Southern end of Big Island - seems remote so I'd prefer to cancel if I find resorts closer to Kona
15 Jan - 5 Feb - Back to Oahu - Marriott Ko Olina -3 consecutive weeks - but all II had at this time was efficiency even though one of my exchanges is a 2 bedroom (II said I could have 2 efficiencies for the same week w/ 2 exchange fees though). The other 2 weeks took a one bedroom unit. QUESTION: Should I put an ongoing search for a one bedroom for those weeks?
6 Feb - I could use Marriott points to remain at Ko Olina or find a cheaper place closer to HNL
6-27 Feb - 3 consecutive weeks at Ke Nani Kai in Molokai
27 Feb - 6 Mar - Kauai - Pono Kai using my 2009 week banked from last year. I can't deposit or change this reservation.
6 - 13 Mar - Pono Kai using my 2010 week. If I find a nicer exchange I can change the reservation to later in 2010 and deposit it. Pono Kai is not my favorite resort. The pool pales in comparison to Marriot's Kauai Beach Club.
13-27 Mar - Oahu - VI's Fairway Villas reserved but I'd cancel for a better exchange.
I hoped to get to Maui but was only able to get a VI reservation for 26 Jan-3 Feb a Tues-Wed combo and decided to cancel in favor of the 21 consecutive days at Marriott Ko Olina in Oahu.
I would prefer to reduce car rentals when possible. If I end up keeping VI Sea Mountain on the Big Island I am guessing I need a car because it is very remote. But I think I'll skip while I'm at Marriott Kauai Beach Club because it is one mile from the airport with a free shuttle. We've explored Kauai extensively in 2007 while staying at Pono Kai where a car is more important.
