  • Question on DRI Resale & "The Club" Membership

I'm in the process of purchasing a deeded 2 bd/2 bath ocean view with DRI at Point at Poipu on the resale market. Got a fantastic price. From reading some of the posts it appears that owning a DRI timeshare purchased on the resale market does not give you rights to "The Club". Is that correct? If yes, can you at least exchange your time for another DRI property? During a conversation held with a ts reseller, the reasons given to buy was more about having access to Interval International where you could purchase get away weeks very reduced prices. Just started the purchase and want to determine if I should continue with purchase. Any words of advise.

Surely it was advice you were asking for?

Anyway, if you want to have a great week every year in Hawaii in a nice resort in an ocean view unit, by all means buy it.

No, you don't get THE Club, Diamond makes you pay at least $2995 to join and it wouldn't be worth it, in my opinion, with that property. There are many reasons, have you found the DRI Forum?? Please read it from end to end.

No DRI does not have an internal exchange although RCI used to offer preference/higher exchange power for DRI-DRI trades, they may still?

No way, no how, would I pay the annual maintenance fees to trade that property into an exchange company to then have to pay an exchange fee for a pig in a poke. I personally don't know if it's even affiliated with II. I know it is affiliated with RCI, but you need to make sure that II accepts individual deposits and isn't just affiliated with DRI through the POINTS end, THE Club.

Getaway weeks are what's left over or what someone else cancels at the last minute, another pig in a poke. If you're retired then it might be worth it.
... not enough time for all the timeshares ®

Question on DRI Resale & "The Club" Membership

Spence - Thanks for the feedback. Yes, it wouldn't be worth the cost to join "The Club". I spoke with DRI this afternoon and the only way they will bring this ts into their world of points is to purchase additional points directly from DRI. Ouch. Not something I want to do. I'm being told from several sources that this ts can be exchanged into II. Several people that really don't benefit from giving advice on whether to purchase or not have said The Point at Poipu provides trading power in II and is a compliment to my current ts portfolio of Hilton's. I am retired with no children, so I have the option to plan travel on a moments notice or at times that others may not deem as desireable. I guess now my question would be how easy is it to exchange and/or reserve ts's in the II network. Any other words of wisdom would be appreciated.

I am not sure what is in your portfolio with Hilton, but I would guess that you would have access to their Hawaii resorts through exchange. The Point at Poipu would be extra MF that you could keep in your pocket. I would think twice if especially if you don't plan to go to Hawaii regularly. Also, if you are retired and have no children and able to travel at a moments notice then the getaways or rentals for when you want to travel would work for you too, especially with people trying desperately to get up from under those fees.

The resort is affiliated with II. It's also affiliated with SFX.

I don't know of any trade preferences within II involving Poipu. I presume that within RCI the old trade preferences and restrictions are still in effect. Those preferences are that weeks deposited from the five resorts that had been Embassy Vacation Resorts properties (Orlando, Scottsdale, Lake Tahoe, Ka'anapali, and Po'ipu) were available only for trade to those five resorts until six months before check-in date. Also, owners at Ka'anapali and Po'ipu were blocked from trading their weeks for most other resorts in Hawai'i.

Be aware that "ocean view" and "ocean front" are different view categories at Poipu. Ocean view will have a largely unobstructed view of the ocean, but there will be buildings between the unit and the ocean.
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

          “You shouldn't wear that body.”
