  • Maui Exchange

I am wondering if I can get some information. I currently have reservations at the Marriott Ko Olina the last week of July 2010. I put in for an exchange from 2009 at Ko Olina for a week at the Marriotts in Maui and the Westin Kaanapali timeshares. I gave them a May 24th week from 2009 and made the reservation over a year in advance.

Up to now I have heard nothing. I put my request in for a week before and a week after my Ko Olina stay. I have yet to make plane reservations as I don't know which way it will go if at all.

I have a couple of questions:

1, What do you think my chances are of getting into one of thos properties at that time of year? I am trading and requesting a 2 bedroom.

    2. Are there any other nice resorts that I should be placing on my list of possible places to stay.

    3. How long should I wait until before I give up since I need to make plane reservations? I don't want all of the planes to fill up or airfare become so high that I cannot afford to go.

I do have a backup plan as I have reserved Diamond Resorts International's Ka'anapali Beach Resort for a week before and a week after my Ko Olina week. However, I want to use the exchange before it expires in 2011. Also, the Ka'anapali Beach Resort does not have a stove or a washer dryer inside of the room and I understand it is a little ways out from the main area in Maui.

Maui is the last island in Hawaii that I have yet to visit. I want to have a great time while I am there.

Any information that you have about any of the resorts or questions I have posed would be appreciated.

2 BR units are often locked off to make it a longer vacation so that may be a problem. Also, July is a very popular time that owners of these timeshare resorts in Maui use their own weeks to vacation with their children when the schools are out. You need an alternative plan while you keep on trying to get this exchange which you have taken care of already.

However, Maui has been so much easier to get an exchange to this year because many people are hit hard by this recession so are staying home and may skip Maui again next year too. This gives you a chance to get an exchange anyway otherwise it would have been nearly impossible.

We locked off our Marriott 2 BR unit in Maui and requested a lock-off unit for one week later and got it the next day. I was really surprised and very pleased. Have a look at the Exchange Oportunities and you will see 2 BR units available at the last minute so you could do that too since you have your alternative plan in place. You can see them after a certain number of posts but I don't know how many.
