    The Grand Illumination

    Colonial Williamsburg
heralds the Christmas season with candles, fireworks and music during The Grand Illumination.

The celebration begins at 4:45 p.m. on outdoor stages throughout the Historic Area. Colonial Williamsburg's Fifes and Drums provide 18th-century music as costumed performers present
holiday entertainment found in Williamsburg two centuries ago.

At 5:45 p.m., the Fifes and Drums signal the beginning of the Grand Illumination. At 6:15 p.m., candles are lit in public buildings, shops and homes, and fireworks are launched at three Historic Area locations: the Governor’s Palace, Magazine and Capitol. After the fireworks, entertainment resumes on the outdoor stages, continuing until 7:30 p.m.

    Nearby timeshares:
Diamond Resorts - Kingscreek - Wyndham Resorts - Westgate

I was at the Grand Illumination many years ago. It was absolutely beautiful - but very crowded. However, the biggest memory from that time was the temperature. The eastern part of the country was in the grips of a fierce cold spell. I had on a sweater, wool coat, hat and two pairs of gloves - and I was still very cold. Sounds like the temps won't be too bad this year. This is an event that's worth seeing at least once in your lifetime.

Holiday Lights - Near Williamsburg Virginia

      December 15, 2009

      Celebration in Lights - 17th Season - 2009

Tonight we went to Celebration in Lights, a two mile spectacular holiday
light display! It is Virginia 's first drive-through holiday light event.

Newport News Park has placed over half a million individual lights creating
animated holiday and fanciful scenes. It is one of the best light displays
we have ever seen. We were so impressed we dove through twice.

      The Grand Entrance

The magic of the holiday season comes to life as reindeer leap overhead
from the dark winter woods, candy canes twinkle along the roadside, and
rainbow-colored scenes reflect on the park's ponds. Traditional holiday
scenes include “Winter Wonderland” with penguins, skiers, and snowflakes
and “Santa's Enchanted Kingdom” presented by Christmas Town, A Busch
Gardens Celebration, with elves, rocking horse, toys, and Santa Claus.

Regional scenes: The Battle of the Monitor & Merrimack and Jamestown.

Newport News Park is located at the intersection of Ft. Eustis Blvd. and
(Route 143) Jefferson Ave. in Newport News. Directions: Eastbound I-64
use Exit 247 Lee Hall, Westbound I-64 Exit 250B Rt. 105 Ft. Eustis Blvd.
      Hours and admission are: Sunday-Saturday 5:30 - 10:00 p.m. $10.00 car.

Welcome: Newport News Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism - Virginia.

Happy Holidays from Bill & Marty and Little Lucky and his buddies...

Colonial Williamsburg replica 18th century postmark

        Christmas Cards

Bill took the first half of our Christmas cards to The Printing Office Bindery
and US Post Office in Colonial Williamsburg Virginia on Wed. The clerk at
the counter was very nice and hand cancel/stamped each and every one.

Thursday, we had a digital family photo taken here at The Estates @ KCP
Placed a 4 x 6 family photo in each of the remaining Christmas Cards.

Friday morning, mailed our special family and friends Christmas cards
at The Printing Office Bindery and US Post Office. Each has a regular
postmark and a CW replica 18th century postmark *Two Post Marks.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Years 2010
