  • Virginia BEACH

    HI
Just wondering if anyone owns or has stayed at the Ocean Key Resort in Virginia Beach. I was thinking of purchasing a timeshare in Virginia Beach...or NC, SC, Maine etc...

Have visited VA Beach but rented a room for one week at a hotel.

How would the trade be if I could not go one year?

Still a Newbie collecting all your thoughts and idea....

Just purchased a 2 BR at Ocean Beach Club. Take a look at golden key resorts. I really enjoy the VA Beach / Williamsburg area.

I stayed in Ocean Key for 5 days over the 4th of July holiday this year. They have recently done a refurbishment and it looks much nicer than some of the older pictures. They also seemed to be trying very hard to up their ratings with their customer service. It was certainly a decent resort and I wouldn't have a problem going back. It is across the street from the boardwalk and its a fairly wide street but even during the holiday weekend it wasn't hard to cross the street at the cross walks. This end of the board walk is quieter but it was an easy walk to tons of restaurants, mini marts, bike rentals, etc. The kitchen is tiny. The beds and beding were comfortable. In a 2 bedroom there were 3 fairly large flat screen tv's and 2 dvd players. The starter packs not only included the basic paper towels, dishwasher soap, mini palmalove but also shower puffs and bath salts. Most rooms don't have balconies and only one of our rooms had a window (that was made to not open). The lack of balcony and windows were a big negative to my husband but it didn't bother me too much. The sales staff are fairly pushy and told a bunch of half truths (the bigest one was that your week didn't matter- for a fixed week deed that you could call Trading Places International -their new management company and reserve any week without a problem) but at least my sales woman was always respectful. I got a $50 check and a 2010 VirginiaBeach/Williamsburg Entertainment book for my 120 minutes. If you are using RCI points there is a $64 fee. I couldn't tell if that is for all points reservations or for ones less than 7 days.

I could not stay at a resort with no windows in the rooms forget own at it. There are better quality and better located properties in VA Beach. The trade power that RCI is assigning for peak at the moment is quite high.

I don't know about Ocean Key resort. I own at Ocean Beach Club and have great trading power. The oldest part of the resort is about 5 years old and it is an II premiere resort.

Definately agree about not trading in with Weeks into a summer or off season week because the credits required in the summer are high and in the off season the availablity is good everywhere. During the summer I traded in with points and 4 nights Friday-Tuesday over 4th of July weekend 7/2-7/6 were less than 21,000 rci points booked 10 months out for a 2 bedroom. This was a supplement to a one bedroom boardwalk week with a Saturday only start.

I agree the golden key resorts look nice (took a tour a few years back) but the fact that parking and internet are not included in the exchange when they are included in the non gold crown/premier resorts bug me; especially the parking fee during the off season month.
