If they are successful, perhaps it will help to increase the timeshare traffic for the area and help to again draw visitors from NY and NJ..

On Morning Joe on CNBC this morning they were talking about it. They stated that the Gov had just signed off on this project so guess another Indian Casino in the future.

The Fernwood is the hotel associated with the Villas at Fairway. The Shawnee timeshares are in the vicinity too.

Both Fernwood and Shawnee, IMO, have seen better days. I've stayed at both and been very disappointed in the quality of accomodations. Fernwood has an advantage over Shawnee in that it has a hotel in addition to the TS units.
BTW - Traffic in that area is terrible! There is a extremely popular flea market on 209, just South of Fernwood and North of Shawnee. On a Saturday, it can take half an hour to get through that area. If a casino license is given out, planners are going to have to come up with a way to deal with already clogged roads.

Traffic there was bad before, I hate to see it after they start gambling.

FYI - I have found away around the traffic grid lock. Coming from the I-80 North exit onto 209 N, make a right at the traffic light (if I remember correctly, it's the first light). This is the way you would go if you were staying at Shawnee. When you get to the traffic light at the end, make a left. Stay on this road all the way out and it will take you past the Shawnee ski resport back onto 209 - past the flea market and all the traffic.

Since Fernwood is North of the other end, this wouldn't help much with traffic congestion if the casino goes through. The roads in this area of the Poconos were never built to handle the high volume of traffic that comes through there.
When we were looking for a summer vacation home, we looked at some places near there. Decided against it because the taxes were so high. Now I'm REALLY glad we bought elsewhere.
