June 9, 2006 - Friday Afternoon - Sunny and Warm

Today we drove from Massanutten to Charlottesville Virginia

We traveled South on Route 340 to Waynesboro, Virginia
Then East on Interstate I-64 to Charlottesville, Virginia

We arrived at The Historic - Home of Thomas Jefferson - Monticello

We parked our car, walked over to Admissions Booth and purchased
our tickets. We boarded the shuttle bus and rode the bus up to the
top of the mountain. As we walked over to the grand old house, a
guided tour was just getting started. Our tour guide, welcomed us
    and everyone stepped inside.

The first rooms on the tour were the Entrance Hall
the South Square Room and the Library

The Parlor has paintings hung in tiers, with portraits of famous men
and American notables such as Washington, Franklin, and Madison.

The Dining Room features one of Monticello's thirteen skylights.
The Jefferson`s Bedroom & the bed were Thomas Jefferson died.

Been there Marti it's a great place to visit. Stop at the University of Virginia if you get a chance it is very similar in design. We went to Natural Bridge and also went swimming in Goshen pass. Visit Virginia Military Institute if you get a chance. Let us know anything else you find we're going the last week of July into August. I heard there's a great fruit orchard in the area as well.

My middle son did his graduate work at UVA. Each time we went to visit him, we couldn't believe how much Charlottesville had grown since our last visit.

We ate a little place near the Mitchie Tavern and visited Monticello on the way back from visiting our son at VT. Very beautiful area!

Shenandoah area is pretty too. Howe's Caverns and Skyline Drive.
